派遣した。家に到着して、地上に千人、屋根の上に千人を配置した。家の人々も大勢いたので、合わせて隙間もないほどに警護させた。この警護する人々も弓矢を帯びて、母屋の内には女たちが番をして守らせた。女房たちは塗籠の内にかぐや姫を大切に守っており、翁も塗籠の戸を差し固めて入口におった。翁は言った。「これほど厳重に守っている所に、天人にも負けるだろうか」と言って、屋根の上にいる人々に言った。「少しでも空中に怪しい物が飛び回ったならば、すぐに射殺してください。」警護の人々は言った。「これほど厳重に警護しているところに、たとえ蝙蝠一匹でも現れたなら、まず射殺して外に晒そう」と。

Speaking to the people on the roof, he said: "If even the slightest suspicious thing should fly about in the sky, immediately shoot it dead." The guards said: "In a place guarded so strictly as this, even if so much as a single bat should appear, we will first shoot it dead and expose it outside."
