重忠は目鬘（目のところだけの面）というものを工夫し作り出し、これを吉原の太鼓持ち目吉に伝えた。今座敷芸にする七変化というのは、これが起源である。

Shigetada devised and created something called "mekatsura" (eye masks - masks covering only the eye area), and passed this on to Mekichi, a jester from the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter. The "shichihenge" (seven transformations) that is now performed as parlor entertainment originated from this.
