現代語訳
頼朝公は景清の目の忠義を感じ取られ、「五障者の目にも勝るこのような英雄の目は武門の宝である」として、長く重忠に預けられた。めでたい御代となったのである。日向勾当は山中の住居であるため、正月が来たことも知らずに暮らしているが、目だけは鎌倉の御所にて春を迎え、目に正月をさせているのであった。
「その方の周防の紋所を見ると、竹屋の歌菊を思い出す」
頼朝公は目の騒動が収まったので、「目」という字を七つ書いて茅場町の薬師に奉納された。七つ目御運の守、これである。
英語訳
Lord Yoritomo, deeply moved by the loyalty of Kagekiyo's eyes, said "These heroic eyes, which surpass even those of the five-obstacle sufferers, are a treasure of the warrior class," and entrusted them to Shigetada for safekeeping. Thus began an auspicious reign. The Hyuga Kōtō, living in a mountain dwelling, passes his days without even knowing when New Year arrives, but his eyes celebrate the New Year and welcome spring at the Kamakura palace.
"When I see your Suō family crest, it reminds me of Takeya's Uta-giku."
After the eye disturbance was settled, Lord Yoritomo wrote the character for "eye" seven times and dedicated them to Yakushi at Kayaba-chō. This became the Seven-Eyes Lucky Charm.
