普段から念入りに見よ、客があって大火を起こした後では遅い
普段から夏は眠るときの蚊帳や蚊取り線香、冬は寒がりのこたつに注意する
普段から昼は留守中より夜の二階、納屋、縁の下をよく確認する
普段から大工や左官のかんな屑を焚き散らした場所に注意する
普段からキセルや提灯、火打ち箱、付け木など、陰で使う燭台に注意する
普段から風呂場の取り灰、火消し壺、火に縁のあるところに注意する

そのためには梯子、水籠、水箒、火叩き、鳶口を揃えておく
そのために蔵の戸前や屋根戸を、折々立てて動かしておく
