山が大きく崩れて
海の中へ押し出し、

東御門跡・御堂・大門
残らず揺り倒し、その外、田畑・
山川が崩れ落ち、大地へ
溢れ出て、人馬の怪我人
数知れず。
およそ家数八千軒余
倒れ崩れ、牛馬三千余
頭も打ち殺され、
古今まれなる大地震、
そのあらましを
ここに写しぬ。

【Upper section】
Bunsei 11, the Year of the Rat (1828),
On the 12th day of the 11th month, likewise
beginning from the fifth hour of the morning (around 8 AM),
a great earthquake began to shake,
and for three days until the 14th,
it did not cease shaking, day or night.
The coastal areas of Tōfuri
and Itsumo-zaki [place names]

【Lower section】
The mountain of the Yahiko Myōjin shrine
collapsed greatly
and was pushed out into the sea.
In the same area,
Sanjō-machi (San-jo town),
Tsubame-machi (Tsubame town),
and also
the East Gate ruins, the temple hall, and the great gate—
all were shaken down without exception. Beyond this, fields, mountains, and rivers collapsed and crumbled, overflowing onto the land. The number of people and horses injured was beyond counting.
Approximately more than 8,000 houses
collapsed and crumbled, and more than 3,000 head of cattle and horses
were killed.
