福寿院伊賀丁おたんす丁焼る傳馬丁一町メ
新道横堅不残やける向がハ天とくじ門前丁
替地少々焼る麹丁拾一町俗二
竹丁と云御堀端二て漸々
夜五ッ時に火鎮人々安堵の
思ひヲなし火用心こそ肝要也

現代語訳

時は嘉永四年辛亥（1851年）四月三日、昼九つ時頃から四谷塩町横町辺りより出火し、折しも北風が激しく、
同じく御室屋彦町の御屋敷方々、浄運寺横町、塩町二丁目・同三丁目南側が残らず焼ける。大木戸の田安様御下屋敷、柳生様御下屋敷において内藤様御屋敷内が少々焼ける。それより内藤新宿下町・中町両側の茶屋・旅籠屋が焼け、同じく横町も焼ける。
大宗寺の閻魔堂が残る。
正受院のお婆さん（仏像）が残る。
同所上町が焼ける。この所の火は三徳という呉服屋で止まる。
一方では押町、同じく押原町横町、鈴木［■］高久様御屋敷、その外の御屋敷が焼ける。岸豊次郎様は火の中で残る。正覚寺、願正寺、毘沙門天が焼ける。法念寺は残る。鬼横町のお岩稲荷が焼ける。
幸殿町、馬殿横町、太田豊次郎様、長安寺、同じく門前町、安部様御下屋敷、笹寺が焼ける。
信濃殿町の板倉様、宮崎様、岡部様御屋敷で止まる。向かい側は大番組御屋敷、大番町が焼ける。
この他、御武家御屋敷、御組御直参の御屋敷が数多く焼ける。青山三筋町の御組屋敷で止まる。
同所六道辻では飛び火で一軒焼ける。また一方では伝馬町三丁目、船坂横町、車河内門横町、同じく二丁目、荒木横町が焼ける。同所新堀江町は残る。伊賀町が少々焼ける。向かい側では天王横町が焼ける。円通寺が焼ける。天王社は残る。法蔵寺横町、祥山寺、法蔵寺、南伊賀町が焼ける。これより西風に変わり、麹町十三丁目、同じく横町、福寿院、伊賀町、お箪笥町が焼ける。伝馬町一丁目、新道横・堅町が残らず焼ける。向かい側では天徳寺門前町の替地が少々焼ける。麹町十一町（俗に竹町という）御堀端でようやく夜五つ時に火が鎮まり、人々は安堵の思いをなした。火の用心こそ肝要である。

英語訳

It was the fourth year of Kaei, year of the metal boar (1851), April 3rd, around the hour of nine in the daytime when a fire broke out from the vicinity of Yotsuya Shiomachi side street. The north wind was fierce at the time, and it burned down completely the various mansions in Omuroya Hikocho, Joun-ji side street, Shiomachi 2-chome and 3-chome on the south side. At Ōkido, Lord Tayasu's lower mansion and Lord Yagyu's lower mansion, part of Lord Naito's mansion grounds burned. From there, the teahouses and inns on both sides of Naito-Shinjuku's lower and middle towns burned, as did the side streets.
Daiso-ji temple's Enma hall survived.
The old woman statue at Shoju-in survived.
The upper town of the same area burned. The fire in this area stopped at a textile shop called Santoku.
On one front, Oshicho, Oshiharamachi side street, Lord Suzuki [■] Takahisa's mansion, and other mansions burned. Lord Kishi Toyojiro's [mansion] survived amid the fire. Shogaku-ji, Gansho-ji, and Bishamonten burned. Honen-ji survived. Oiwa Inari shrine in Oni side street burned.
Sachidono-cho, Umadono side street, Lord Ota Toyojiro's [mansion], Choan-ji temple, its gate-front street, Lord Abe's lower mansion, and Sasa temple burned.
[The fire] stopped at the mansions of Lords Itakura, Miyazaki, and Okabe in Shinanodono-cho. On the opposite side, the Oban-gumi mansion and Oban-cho burned.
Besides these, many samurai mansions and direct retainer group mansions burned. [The fire] stopped at the group mansion in Aoyama Misuji-cho.
At Rokudo-tsuji in the same area, one house burned from flying sparks. On another front, Demmacho 3-chome, Funasaka side street, Kuruma Kawauchi-mon side street, the same 2-chome, and Araki side street burned. Shin-Horie-cho in the same area survived. Iga-cho burned partially. On the opposite side, Tenno side street burned. Entsu-ji temple burned. Tenno shrine survived. Hozo-ji side street, Shozan-ji temple, Hozo-ji temple, and Minami Iga-cho burned. From here the wind changed to westerly, and Kojimachi 13-chome, its side street, Fukuju-in temple, Iga-cho, and Otansu-cho burned. Demmacho 1-chome, and the new road side and Tate-cho burned completely. On the opposite side, the replacement land of Tentoku-ji gate-front street burned partially. [The fire] finally subsided at night at the fifth hour at Kojimachi 11-cho (commonly called Take-cho) by the moat, and people felt relieved. Fire prevention is indeed essential.
