【右丁】
花アヤメ　山の渓谷に自生する。陸地に移植してもよく繁茂する。人家
　に多く栽培して花を鑑賞する。春、古い根から苗を生やす。葉の形はカキツバタ
　の葉に似て細く、長さ一、二尺、背に稜があって表面にはない。葉の真
　ん中の筋のようである。多くが群生する。四月に別に円い茎を出して先端に
　二、三の花を付ける。一つの花がしぼむと続けて一つの花が開く。大小六弁、
　形はハナショウブに似て小さく、花弁は細い。紫青色で大小数十種類ある。
　また白花のものもある。いずれも花後に莢を生じる。秋に苗は枯れる。実が落ちて
　生えやすい。一種、とても小さなものをヒメアヤメ、一名コア
　ヤメと言う。葉の長さ五寸ほど、花は八分ほどの大きさである。

Hana-ayame　Grows wild in mountain valleys. When transplanted to dry land, it flourishes well. Widely
　cultivated in residential gardens for flower appreciation. In spring, it produces shoots from old roots. The leaf shape resembles Kakitsubata
　leaves but narrower, one to two shaku in length, with ridges on the back but not on the front surface. Like the central
　vein of leaves. Many grow in clusters. In April, it separately sends up round stems and bears
　two to three flowers at the tips. When one flower wilts, another flower opens in succession. Six petals of various sizes,
　the shape resembles Hanashōbu but smaller, with narrow petals. Purple-blue color with dozens of varieties in different sizes.
　There are also white-flowered varieties. All produce pods after flowering. The shoots wither in autumn. Seeds fall and
　germinate easily. One variety that is very small is called Hime-ayame, also known as Ko-a-
　yame. Leaves are about five sun long, flowers are about eight bu in size.
