現代語訳

【右丁】
豌豆　秋の月に種を蒔き、翌年の夏に熟する。蔓性の草である。葉の形は藤
　に似ているが先端は尖らず、白色を帯びる。葉の先端部分から特に細い巻きひげを出し、近く
　にある物に絡みつく。春に花を葉の間ごとに生じる。暖かい地方では冬から
　開花する。形はいんげん豆に似て大きい。紫色また白色もある。ともに花の
　後に莢を生じる。大豆より長大である。実は正円形で大豆の扁平
　なのとは異なる。若い時は莢ごと煮て食べる。一種で外国産の
　ものがあり、サルマメ一名サルエンドウと言い、備中地方での呼び名である。苗の形は
　同じで紫花白花ともにある。豆は大きくて通常の倍ほどある。この莢は
　若い時でも食べることができない。ともに実が熟して苗は五月に枯れる。

　　△甘平、毒なし。小便の出を良くし、乳汁の分泌を促す。

Peas　Seeds are sown in autumn months and ripen in the following summer. It is a climbing vine. The leaf shape resembles wisteria
　but the tips are not pointed and have a whitish tinge. From the leaf tips, particularly fine tendrils emerge and
　twine around nearby objects. In spring, flowers grow between each leaf. In warm regions, they bloom from
　winter. The shape resembles kidney beans but is larger. There are purple and white varieties. Both produce
　pods after flowering. They are longer and larger than soybeans. The seeds are perfectly round, different from the flat
　shape of soybeans. When young, they are boiled and eaten together with the pods. There is one variety of foreign origin
　called Sarumame, also known as Saruendō, which is the name used in Bitchū Province. The seedling shape is
　the same, with both purple and white flowers. The beans are large, about twice the usual size. These pods
　cannot be eaten even when young. In both cases, the seeds ripen and the plants wither in the fifth month.
