現代語訳

【右丁】
凌霄（ノウゼン）　人家に栽培される。場所によっては山野にも自生がある。つる草で、木によじ登って高く上り繁茂する。しかし絡みつかない。年数の経ったものはつるが太くなり藤のようである。春に新葉を生じる。両対で形は藤のようで、粗い鋸歯があり深緑色。四角い茎で、六月頃茎頭で一尺ほど枝を分け、両対して花を開く。形は朝顔のようである。基部は筒状で、先端は円い花弁が五つ出る。大きさ二寸。内側は赤黄色で赤色の筋があり、外側は淡黄色。雄蕊の色も同じ。後に小さな莢を結ぶ。長さ二寸ほどで平たい。冬に葉が落ちる。

Lingxiao (Nōzen)　Cultivated in people's homes. Depending on the location, it also grows wild in mountains and fields. It is a vine that climbs high up trees and flourishes. However, it does not coil around them. Old specimens have thick vines like wisteria. In spring it produces new leaves. They are opposite pairs, shaped like wisteria with coarse serrated edges and deep green color. The stem is square. Around the sixth month, the stem head branches about 1 shaku and opens flowers in opposite pairs. The shape is like morning glory. The base is tubular and the tip has five round petals extending outward. Size is 2 sun. The inside is reddish-yellow with red stripes, the outside is pale yellow. The stamens are the same color. Later it forms small pods about 2 sun long and flattened. The leaves fall in winter.

△Bitter, balanced, non-toxic. Benefits qi and treats throat swelling.
