現代語訳

【右丁】
機活法は便利とはいえ、平仄もなく風韻もなく、熟語も足りない。その他、近世に刊行された『詩韻含英』・『異同弁』・『韻府一隅』・『詩韻珠璣』・『頭字韻』・『初学検韻』・『両韻便覧』等の諸書は、いずれも一得一失があって、諸書をすべて揃えなければ間に合わせがたい。今このような書は、字引として右等の諸書をすべて解消してしまうかのごとき上に、奇語・雋辞はもちろん、両韻の異同通用等に至るまで詳しく、古今諸家の集及び詩話・随筆の中より拾い集めて、金声玉振せしめた、古今未曽有の撰次である。およそ詩学便蒙の書が世に現れて以来、その比を見ずといい得べき好書である。発売は当年中を出でず（当年中に発売予定）。

この書は、東武の村瀬誨輔先生が博学多識の力をもって、全集よりその奇絶にして裨益ある文を選び出し、また、その中の各文に圏点によって差別（区別）を設け、さらに類書を集めてこれを校正し、異同は標注に挙げて示した。まことに先生の編次は尽くされていると言うべし。文章に志ある人は、これらの書をもって消日の具となさるならば、裨益少なからず。

Although the "Kikatsu method" (a mnemonic device) is convenient, it lacks level-oblique tone distinctions, lacks poetic resonance, and is deficient in familiar phrases. Other recently published works such as Shiun Ganei (Poetic Rhymes Containing Essence), Ido Ben (Distinguishing Differences), Unpu Ichigū (A Corner of the Rhyme Treasury), Shiun Jugi (Pearl and Jade of Poetic Rhymes), Tōji'in (Head-Character Rhymes), Shogaku Kenin (Rhyme Search for Beginning Students), Ryōin Benran (Convenient Overview of Two Rhymes), and similar works each have their merits and deficiencies, making it impossible to manage without gathering all of them. This book, serving as a dictionary, is as if it subsumes all of the aforementioned works, and moreover covers in detail not only rare phrases and brilliant expressions, but even the differences and common usage between rhyme categories, collecting from the works of various masters ancient and modern, as well as poetry discussions and miscellaneous essays, bringing them together in a resonant whole — a selection and arrangement unprecedented in all history. It can be said to be a superior work the like of which has not been seen since books of introductory poetic learning first appeared in the world. Publication is expected within this very year.

These books were produced through the extensive learning and wide knowledge of Master Murase Kaisuke of Tōbu (Edo), who selected from the complete works the most remarkable and beneficial writings. Furthermore, he used circle-point marks to make distinctions within each text, gathered related works to collate and correct them, and noted textual variants in annotations. It can truly be said that Master's compilation and arrangement is thoroughly accomplished. For those who aspire to excel in literary composition, if they make these books a pastime for daily leisure, the benefit will be considerable.
