【右丁】
ウツボグサ　山野に多く自生する。四季を通じて葉がある。形は薄荷（ハッカ）の葉に似て、
　先端が少し尖り、浅い鋸歯がある。冬は地面に接して叢生する。春の後、茎を
　伸ばして高さ六、七寸、或いは一尺余りに至る。葉は対生する。五月頃、茎の頭部に穂を出し、
　花を開く。深紫色、また深紫色に青を帯びるものがある。また淡紫色、深紅色、
　淡紅色、白色のものもある。花の形はオドリコソウの花によく似ている。花が落ちた後、萼の
　長さは一、二寸ほど。形は靫（うつぼ）に似ている。また千日紅の花によく似ている。この草を夏
　枯草（カゴソウ）と俗に称するけれども、これは違う。夏至以後に花があって夏に枯れない
　一種のものである。真の夏枯草は『和名抄』にあるジュウニヒトエという草である。
　山中の陽地に生える。葉はオグルマの葉に似て粗い鋸歯があり白毛が多い。三、
　四月に茎の頭部に穂を生じること二、三寸。小花が密に付く。五弁で白色。また淡紫、
　また紫碧のものもある。花が終われば萼中に小さな種子が四粒ある。熟すと苗が枯れる。

Self-heal　Grows abundantly wild in mountains and fields. Has leaves throughout the four seasons. The shape resembles mint leaves,
　with slightly pointed tips and shallow serrated edges. In winter it grows in clusters close to the ground. After spring, it extends its stem
　to a height of six to seven sun, or sometimes over one shaku. Leaves are opposite. Around May, it produces spikes at the stem tip and
　opens flowers. Deep purple color, and some have deep purple tinged with blue. There are also pale purple, deep red,
　pale red, and white varieties. The flower shape closely resembles that of dead-nettle. After the flowers fall, the calyx is
　about one to two sun long. The shape resembles a quiver (utsubo). It also closely resembles globe amaranth flowers. This plant is
　commonly called summer-withering grass (kagoso), but this is incorrect. It flowers after the summer solstice and does not wither in summer—
　it is a distinct species. The true summer-withering grass is the plant called Juni-hitoe mentioned in the "Wamyosho."
　It grows in sunny places in the mountains. The leaves resemble those of Inula and have coarse serrated edges with much white hair. In the third and
　fourth months, it produces spikes at the stem tip of two to three sun length. Small flowers attach densely. Five petals, white in color. There are also pale purple
　and purple-blue varieties. When flowering ends, there are four small seeds in the calyx. The plant withers when they ripen.
