現代語訳

【右丁】
雪ノ下　人家の庭際に栽培する。陰湿の地によく繁茂する。また井戸の石間に多く植える。
　葉は円扁で厚く、周辺に浅い切れ込みがある。表面は深緑色で紫色を混じえ、葉脈は白を
　帯びて紫毛がある。裏面は毛がなく淡紫色である。夏月に茎を伸ばすこと一尺ほど。紫
　毛が多い。梢頭で枝を分かち、花を多く開く。白色の二弁が下垂する。長さ七、八分、
　幅二分ほど。上に短い花弁三つが並ぶ。粉紅色で紅点がある。一種で淡紅花のもの
　があるが稀である。共に根の上に細い紅糸を出し、四方に引く。その先に小葉を生
　じ、後にひげ根を出して繁茂する。一種のハルノユキノシタは葉が緑色で紫でな
　く、春中に花を開く。小さくて白色。後に実を生ずる。また一種のイワブキは
　北国に産する。葉が大きくてツワブキのようである。花は小さく穂が大きい。一種のユキモヨウは
　緑色で深い切れ込みがあり、秋に花を開く。また長葉がある。一種のヤツデユキノシタは
　葉が緑色でツタモミジに似て厚く、秋に花があって大の字のようである。故に大
　文字草と呼ぶ。この外にもなお品種が多い。△主な効能　微苦平で毒はない。耳痛を治す。

Saxifrage　Cultivated in home gardens. Thrives well in shady, moist ground. Also frequently planted among the stones of wells.
　The leaves are round and flat, thick, with shallow indentations around the edges. The surface is deep green mixed with purple, and the leaf veins are tinged
　with white and have purple hairs. The underside has no hairs and is pale purple. In summer months it extends stems about one shaku high. There are
　many purple hairs. At the tip it branches and produces many flowers. Two white petals hang down. Length seven to eight bu,
　width about two bu. Above, three short petals are arranged. Pink in color with red spots. There is one variety with pale pink flowers
　but it is rare. Both put out thin red threads from above the roots, extending in four directions. At their tips small leaves form,
　and later they put out fibrous roots and flourish. One variety called Spring Saxifrage has green leaves that are not purple
　and opens flowers during spring. Small and white in color. Later it produces fruit. Another variety called Rock Butterbur
　grows in northern provinces. The leaves are large like leopard plant. The flowers are small and the spikes large. One variety called Snow Pattern
　is green with deep indentations and opens flowers in autumn. It also has long leaves. One variety called Fatsia Saxifrage has
　green leaves resembling ivy maple, thick, with autumn flowers shaped like the character "大" (large). Hence it is called
　Large Character Grass. Besides these, there are many more varieties. △Main properties　Slightly bitter, neutral, non-toxic. Treats ear pain.
