現代語訳
唐菓子大王は茶碗を有平糖が買い取ったと聞き及び、いろいろと吟味なさったが、有平糖の行方が知れないため、干菓子山へ言い訳もなく、息子の首を打って日本への言い訳にしようと、甘露糖を検使に遣わし、その分別のため加勢以多を伴わせた。
有平糖の家臣であるけし糖は、大王の上意であるので有平糖の息子を討とうと請け負った。
けし糖は主人の難儀のため是非なく討とうと思ったが、我が息子と同じ大きさであるけれども、主人は上品であり、それに対し我が息子は同じ有平糖であるけれども安物の一文二文でも似ても似つかぬ雪と墨のようである。忠義のためとはいいながら、皆南風にて消えてしまいそうな風情である。
けし糖は息子が何心なく遊んでいるところを首を打ち落とし、お身代わりに立てた。
英語訳
The Great King of Chinese Confections heard that Aruheitou (hard candy) had bought the tea bowl and conducted various investigations, but since Aruheitou's whereabouts were unknown, he decided to behead his son without excuse to Higashi-yama and use this as an apology to Japan. He sent Kanrotou (sweet dew candy) as an inspector, accompanied by Kaseitakusan for this purpose.
Keshitou (poppy seed candy), a retainer of Aruheitou, accepted the task of killing Aruheitou's son as it was the lord's command.
Keshitou thought he had no choice but to kill him due to his master's predicament, but although his own son was the same size, his master was of high quality, whereas his own son, though the same Aruheitou candy, was cheap goods worth only one or two mon - as different as snow and ink that bear no resemblance to each other. Though he said it was for loyalty, they all seemed like they would melt away in the south wind - such a pitiful state.
Keshitou beheaded his son while the boy was playing innocently and presented him as a substitute.
