現代語訳
小落雁は殿よりお預けの茶碗を紛失したので、すぐに腹を切って本懐を遂げようと覚悟を決めた折から、相方の花法螺がやって来て、しばし切腹を思いとどまるよう尋ね試した。されど意志は一段として、やはり花法螺は落雁の二人は離れぬ仲なので、いろいろと諌める。

「なるほどもっともです。しかし皆私から起こったこと。あなたが腹を切ったならば、その茶碗が出てきますか。命中への詮議をしてお詫びなさる心はありませんか。死ねば犬死に同じです。」
英語訳
Little Rakugan, having lost the tea bowl entrusted to him by his lord, resolved to immediately commit seppuku to fulfill his duty. Just then, his partner Hanahorō arrived and tried to persuade him to postpone his suicide for a while. However, his resolve remained firm, and since Hanahorō and Rakugan were inseparable companions, he tried various ways to dissuade him.
