それ専念佐二兵衛は四国をめぐつて
さるとなり小林の朝いなはゐこくをめ
ぐつてさるくまと今にその名をゑどり
のがぶすほうの【？】つるのはをかきあはせ
ちからじまんのひぢをはるの日つく〴〵
おもふに今一度ゐこくへわたりゐ人を
一人つゝ日本へつれきたらばほんのいゝ
みせものならんこいつは一ばん新手しや
としきりに思ひ立そのようゐ
をぞなしにける
　〽世の中にねるほどらくは
　　　なきものをいらぬたはけが
　　　　　おきてはたらく

　　　あさいなはくわん〳〵と

現代語訳

さて専念佐二兵衛は四国を巡って猿となり、小林の朝比奈は異国を巡って猿熊となって、今にその名を江戸里の瓦版法師の鶴の羽を書き合わせ、力自慢の肘を張る春の日、つくづく思うに、今一度異国へ渡り、異人を一人ずつ日本へ連れて来たら、本当に良い見世物になるだろう。これは一番新手だと、しきりに思い立ち、その用意をするのであった。

〽樽を枕に朝比奈はぐうぐうとこそ眠ったのであった。

Now, Sennen Saji-bei had traveled around Shikoku and became a monkey, while Kobayashi no Asaina had traveled around foreign countries and became a monkey-bear. Even now their names are combined in the writings of the news-sheet priests of Edo-sato, like crane feathers joined together. On this spring day, flexing his strong arms, he thought deeply: "If I were to cross to foreign lands once more and bring back foreigners one by one to Japan, it would make a truly excellent show. This would be the newest attraction!" With this thought constantly in mind, he began making preparations.
