現代語訳
朝比奈は程なく鎌倉へ着いたが、一体百鬼夜行のようなものなので、この八人の手配を面白く使おうと、道中ありそうなものといろいろ案じて、まず胸に穴のある国の人を裸にして検非違使の薦を着せ、口から酒を注ぎ、その胸の穴へ飲み口をつけ、酒樽の代わりに用いる。
狂歌に
〽我が心開けて見せたき折々は胸に穴ある島も懐かし
というのを思い出す。
【朝比奈の台詞】
鼻の穴へ屋形船を漕ぎ込むとは助六の悪態にもあるが、腹の穴へ飲み口とは新しいからう（だろう）。
【手長島の台詞】
親方、これは妙案でございます。

英語訳
Asaina soon arrived in Kamakura, but since this was like a parade of demons and spirits, he pondered various ways to make interesting use of these eight people's arrangements for what might happen on the road. First, he stripped the person from the country with holes in their chest naked, dressed them in a kebiishi's (imperial police) straw mat, poured sake from their mouth, attached a drinking spout to the hole in their chest, and used them as a substitute for a sake barrel.
This brings to mind the kyōka (comic poem):
〽When I wish to open and show my heart, I long for that island with holes in the chest.

"Rowing a pleasure boat into a nostril" is mentioned in Sukeroku's abuse, but using a belly hole as a drinking spout is novel indeed.
