**光物の説**
或る人が問うて言った。夏の夜に「光物」と呼ばれるものがあって、折々見えることが多い。また、俗に「人魂火」と言って、空を飛ぶ火がある。その落ちた所に炭のようなものがあると言う人も数多いる。これはいかなるものでございましょうか。
答えて言う。光物というものが存在することは事実である。私も折々見たことがある。これは地下にある大いなる陽の火気が、迸り裂けて出て、火気が下から上の天へと昇るのである。昇って、上に湿気がなく、燥熱（乾いて熱い状態）となる時には形をなして、今俗に言う「夜流星（よばいぼし）」となる。この「夜流星」というものは星ではなく、地から突き衝いて昇る陽火である。その高さは日月と同じ位置にはなく、日月よりもずっと低い。それゆえ、地（場所）を変えてみることはできない。その陽気の昇るところだけで見えるものである。月の暈（かさ）のようなものだ。月の暈は気であって、天（の現象）…

**On the Phenomenon of Luminous Objects**
Someone asked: On summer nights, there are things called "luminous objects" (hikari-mono), which are seen frequently from time to time. Furthermore, there is what the common people call "hitodama-bi" (spirit-fire / will-o'-the-wisp), a fire that flies through the sky. Many people say that in the place where it falls, there is something resembling charcoal. What sort of thing might this be?
In response: It is a fact that things called "luminous objects" do exist. I myself have seen them from time to time. These are the great yang fire-energy (火気) that exists underground, which bursts and splits forth, rising from below upward toward the heavens. As it rises and there is no moisture above, when it becomes hot and dry, it takes on a form and becomes what people today commonly call "yobai-boshi" (shooting stars / night-flowing stars). These "yobai-boshi" are not stars; they are yang fire that thrusts upward from the earth. Their height is not at the same level as the sun and moon — they are far lower than the sun and moon. For this reason, one cannot observe them by changing one's location. They are visible only in the place where that yang energy rises. They are like the halo around the moon.
