現代語訳
異教にはまり込み、淫祀（いんし）を奉じることにおいてはなおさらである。心の内にあって、かの汚らわしき言説を塞き止めようとする、これが私のささやかな意図である。ひとり燭を秉（と）る者（＝著者自身）が、どうして名声のためにこれを書こうとするであろうか。また、万の谷間の清らかな氷と白雲の時節を待ち望む者のためであろうか（いや、そうではない）。読む者はよくこれを察してほしい。

...and how much more so in the case of those who lose themselves in heterodox teachings and engage in licentious rites (*inshi*). Deep within my heart, my subtle intention is to block and suppress those defiling and vile doctrines. Would I, who hold the candle alone, write this for the sake of fame? Or is it for those who await the pure ice of ten thousand valleys and the season of white clouds? Let those who read this discern my meaning well.
