淵明が菊を愛し茂叔が蓮を

Preface to the Illustrated Book of Wild Mountain Plants
Among all the myriad things that flourish throughout the four seasons, there are many loveable grasses and flowers in the mountains, fields, and waterside areas. Each competes in color, blooming magnificently. When Tao Yuanming loved chrysanthemums and Zhou Maoshu loved lotus flowers, they valued their noble character rather than their physical beauty. This is because when wise men appreciate things, they [cultivate their] spirit
