喪はずして真に愛すれば也《割書：予》家
世〳〵画を嗜み筆を取て恒の
産とす依て今草花を図せんと欲
して或は山野に逍遥し或は
樹家に徘徊して見る所の花を
携へ葉を袖にして其名を尋て
真偽を弁し漢名に至ては本草

三才図会に依て是を訂し新花
の如きは出処を追ふて名を記す爰に
其佳なる物数十種を撰写す題に【而ヵ】
画本野山草といふ今幸に渋川氏の
需に応して梓に鏤はめ聊童蒙
の便りとす是【且ヵ】凡草花は風土の寒暖
肥痩によりて国々の形容同しからず

代々絵画を嗜み、筆を取ることを生業
としている。そこで今、草花を描こうと思い、
ある時は山野を散策し、ある時は
庭園を歩き回って、目にした花を
手に取り、葉を袖に入れて、その名前を尋ね、
真偽を見分け、漢名については本草学書や

三才図会に依拠してこれを校訂し、新しい花
については出所を調べて名前を記している。ここに
その美しいもの数十種を選んで写し描いた。題して
画本野山草という。今幸いにも渋川氏の
依頼に応じて版木に彫り、いささか初心者
の便宜を図るものである。そもそも草花は風土の寒暖や
土地の肥沃さ痩せ具合によって、国ごとに形や様子が同じでなく

without losing [their essence], truly loving them. My family has
practiced painting for generations, making a living
by taking up the brush. Therefore, now wishing to illustrate grasses and flowers,
sometimes I wander through mountains and fields, sometimes
I stroll around gardens, taking in hand the flowers I see,
placing leaves in my sleeves, inquiring about their names,
distinguishing truth from falsehood, and for Chinese names [I rely on] medical botany texts and

the Sancai Tuhui to correct them. For new flowers,
I trace their origins and record their names. Here
I have selected and illustrated several dozen of the finest species. I title it
"Illustrated Book of Wild Mountain Plants." Now, fortunately responding to Mr. Shibukawa's
request, I have it carved into printing blocks, providing some small
convenience for beginners. Moreover, grasses and flowers vary in form and appearance from country to country
depending on the climate's warmth or cold and the soil's fertility or barrenness,
