【見出し、囲み部分】冬牡丹（ふゆぼたん）
【囲みの外】花の色は紫あり、紅（べに）あり、薄咲きあり、大白あり。花も葉も木も、春の牡丹より小さい。しかし早咲きは大きい。
色は春咲く牡丹より美しい。紅色、紫ともに葉に赤い輝きがある。茎や葉の筋も薄赤い。八月より葉も花も出て、十一月頃に花咲く。また蕾が出ても花開かないものもある。ただし全体的には春のものより小さい。

【囲みの外】花は金色、花弁多く菊のようである。葉はニンジンに似ている。
花は一重、八重あり、また深黄あるいは浅黄、また白もあるという。花は朝に開き夕べに眠る。その花はまた翌朝開く。長く続く。高さは一寸より五寸、また春の末に至れば八、九寸ばかり伸びる。茎を伸ばし枝を伸ばす。葉開く。正月より二月まである。山原また谷底に生ずる。近江国北山より出されたもの。
一名福寿草、また漢名は報春草。中国でも立春より咲くとある。報春鳥（ウグイス）と同じなので報春草という。

【Heading, boxed section】Winter Peony (Fuyu-botan)
【Outside the box】The flower colors include purple, crimson, light-colored, and large white varieties. The flowers, leaves, and wood are all smaller than spring peonies. However, early-blooming ones are large.
The colors are more beautiful than spring-blooming peonies. Both crimson and purple have a reddish shine on the leaves. The stems and leaf veins are also light red. From August, both leaves and flowers emerge, and flowers bloom around November. Some buds emerge but do not open. However, overall they are smaller than spring varieties.

【Heading, boxed section】New Year's Day Grass (Ganjitsu-sō)
【Outside the box】The flowers are golden in color, with many petals like chrysanthemums. The leaves resemble carrots.
The flowers come in single and double varieties, also in deep yellow or light yellow, and white varieties are said to exist. The flowers open in the morning and close in the evening. The same flowers open again the next morning. This continues for a long time. The height ranges from one sun to five sun, and by late spring they stretch to about eight or nine sun. They extend their stems and branches. The leaves unfold. They are present from New Year to February. They grow in mountain fields and valley bottoms. They were brought from Kitayama in Ōmi Province.
Also called Fukuju-sō (Adonis), and the Chinese name is Hōshun-sō (Spring-announcing grass). In China too, it is said to bloom from the beginning of spring. Because it is the same as the spring-announcing bird (bush warbler), it is called spring-announcing grass.
