　糸を打越させ手前の座繰の篗へ幾本も糸口を
　揃ゆるなり
一糸は繭五ッ六ッ位を一ッに取り大体白き糸十二本
　引揃是通例のてせら糸の太さなり芥子てせらは
　十二本の処を六本七本にもするなり
一引揃たる糸篗の侭にて水へ浸す冬は早朝に捻
　らんと思へは宵より一夜浸し夏は一夜も浸せ
　は糸腐るなり其程を可考
一捻るべき時に至り水中より篗を引揚け直に紡
　綞に巻く紡綞の数は十二本又十本二十本なり
　十二本なれは合捻にて六本なり
一片捻より又合せて緒捻にするなり手早にして
　水の不乾様にすへし水乾は糸大に悪く成るなり

一右糸捻は下よりの時は内へ廻し上捻をは外へ廻すなり
　並の絹糸皆右捻の糸なり

一糸捻時節は五月を良とす朝四ッ時過よし昼時は
　又糸乾故に悪し三四月又六七月よし秋風立は
　糸乾故に悪し尤紡へ掛て後糸乾は手拭をぬら
　し糸をそつとすごくべし

　糸を打ち越させ、手前の座繰の篗へ幾本も糸口を
　揃えるのである。
一、糸は繭五つ六つ位を一つに取り、大体白い糸十二本
　引き揃える。これが通例の手座糸の太さである。芥子手座は
　十二本のところを六本七本にもするのである。
一、引き揃えた糸を篗のままで水へ浸す。冬は早朝に撚ろ
　うと思えば宵より一晩浸し、夏は一晩も浸せば
　糸が腐るのである。その程度をよく考えるべきである。
一、撚るべき時に至り、水中より篗を引き上げ、直ちに紡錘
　に巻く。紡錘の数は十二本または十本、二十本である。
　十二本ならば合撚にて六本である。
一、片撚りよりまた合わせて諸撚りにするのである。手早くして
　水が乾かないようにすべきである。水が乾けば糸が大変悪くなるのである。

一、右糸撚りは下よりの時は内へ回し、上撚りは外へ回すのである。
　並の絹糸はみな右撚りの糸である。
一、左糸撚りは下よりの時は外へ回し、上撚りは内へ回す。
　手座は左撚りの糸である。

　The threads are passed over and the thread ends are aligned onto the spools of the silk-reeling wheel in front.
1. For thread, take about five or six cocoons as one unit, and generally align twelve white threads together. This is the standard thickness of tezara (hand-reeled) thread. For karashi-tezara, the twelve threads are reduced to six or seven threads.
1. Soak the aligned threads in water while still on the spool. In winter, if you intend to twist in the early morning, soak from the evening for one night. In summer, if soaked for a whole night, the threads will rot. Consider this timing carefully.
1. When it comes time to twist, pull the spool from the water and immediately wind it onto spindles. The number of spindles is twelve, or ten, or twenty. If twelve, it becomes six when combined and twisted.
1. From single twist, combine again to make multiple twist. Work quickly so that the water does not dry. If the water dries, the thread becomes very poor.

1. To check the degree of twisting, twist it up and wind it on a spool, then remove it from the spool and immerse it in clean water to examine. If over-twisted, it will shrink up and not stretch at all. If under-twisted, it will not twist up and will hang loose. Consider finding the right degree.
1. The best season for thread twisting is May. Early morning, after the fourth hour (around 10 AM), is good. Midday is bad because the thread dries again. March-April and June-July are also good. When autumn winds rise, it is bad because the thread dries. When the thread dries after being placed on the spindle, wet a hand towel and gently moisten the thread.
