兄弟は朝比奈の初めからの大きな世話により、祐経への面会も首尾よく済み、この上にも八幡太郎を取り逃がさないようにしてお仕付け。
富士の裾野の御狩りは野奉行は工藤と定まっているゆえ、向きには向き付けて下奉行になりとなって、首尾よく父の仇、十八年の本望を遂げようと目論み、人がどう言おうが何と思おうが、少しも構わず、韓信の股くぐりなどと一時の恥辱も心に意見を加え、祐経に会い、仕官の帰りがけに八幡太郎の屋敷へ行き、機嫌を伺って案内を乞うて一礼を述べる。
「これ、御家来の旦那、お帰りの折に申し上げようには、いよいよ御勇健にお勤めなされ、めでたく存じ奉ります。まずもって今朝は大守様への御目見えも首尾よく相済み、御陰ゆえとて、有り難く存じ奉ります。右の御礼として十郎五郎、御屋敷まで参上いたしました。このことも向き、御帰宅の折に申し上げてくださいませ。」
