山寺の末寺となる。本尊は薬師如来で、その胎内に鴛（おしどり）の首を納めてある。当寺の寺号印は安芸守手作りの銅印で、自身の像を付け、鴛の文字一字である。これは鴛鴦菩提のために作り納めたものである。
この他、法灯国師の真筆書目二種並びに重器がある。
そもそも桜井安芸守重久は武田家二十四将の内四奉行の家で、甲州山梨郡桜井村に居城していた。天正10年3月29日、武田大膳太夫勝頼

公が天目山で討死した後、当地に来て甲斐沼重久と改め、中島城に住居した。天正12年甲申の年12月26日、当村の真菰が池で鴛鴦が遊んでいるのを見て、重久が弓で射たところ、雄鳥の首を射切った。その後不思議なことに、若い美女一人が重久の門に来て歌を詠んだ。重久が出て見ると姿は見えない。この美女が来ることは度々で、日暮れ時分ばかりに来るので、重久は様々に心を尽くして詮索するけれども姿は見えない。その歌に
「桜井の名もうらめしき甲斐沼の真菰が」

It became a subsidiary temple of Mineyamadera. The principal deity is Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha), and inside its body cavity is placed the head of the male mandarin duck. The temple's seal is a bronze seal handmade by Aki-no-kami, bearing his own image and the single character for "ō" (male duck). This was made and dedicated for the spiritual salvation of the mandarin ducks.
In addition, there are two authentic calligraphic works by Dharma Lamp National Master and other precious artifacts.
Now, Sakurai Aki-no-kami Shigehisa was from one of the four magistrate families among the twenty-four generals of the Takeda clan, and had his castle in Sakurai village, Yamanashi district, Kōshū. On March 29th of Tenshō 10 (1582), after Lord Takeda Daizen-tayū Katsuyori

died in battle at Mount Tenmoku, he came to this area and changed his name to Kainuma Shigehisa, residing at Nakajima Castle. On December 26th of Tenshō 12, the year of kinoe-saru (1584), seeing mandarin ducks playing in the wild rice pond of this village, Shigehisa shot at them with his bow and severed the head of the male bird. Afterwards, mysteriously, a young beautiful woman came to Shigehisa's gate and recited poetry. When Shigehisa came out to look, her figure could not be seen. This beautiful woman came many times, always around twilight, so Shigehisa tried various means to investigate thoroughly, but her figure remained invisible. Her poem went:
"Even the name Sakurai has become hateful, at Kainuma's wild rice..."
