現代語訳
かくして、さしもの化け猫を又八が易々と退治したので、嘉右衛門は「母の仇を討ったのも、ひとえに貴殿のお陰である」と大いに感謝し、様々にもてなし馳走して、娘おしがとの夫婦の仲を頼む。
おしがは恋い慕う又八と夫婦になれて喜んだが、猫又の妖怪に恐れをなしている。
又八が疲れを癒そうと大盃を引き受け、なみなみと酒を受けたところ、かの赤猫の面がありありと映るので、空を見ると、赤猫の首が炎々と舞い歩いているのを睨み落とした。その後は不思議なこともなかった。
嘉右衛門は肝を潰す。「猫の一念、実に恐ろしいものだ。」

Thus, Matahachi easily vanquished even such a formidable demon cat, so Kaemon expressed great gratitude, saying "The revenge for my mother's death is entirely thanks to your grace," and entertained him with various hospitalities and feasts, requesting that he take his daughter Oshiga as his wife.
Oshiga rejoiced at becoming the wife of Matahachi, whom she had been longing for, but she remained fearful of the cat-demon's supernatural powers.
When Matahachi accepted a large sake cup to rest from his fatigue and received it filled to the brim with sake, the face of that red cat appeared clearly reflected in it. Looking up at the sky, he saw the red cat's head dancing about in flames, which he glared down and vanquished. After that, there were no more strange occurrences.
Kaemon was astounded. "The obsessive spirit of a cat is truly a terrifying thing."
