現代語訳
その大入道が鎌田又八を食らい殺そうとしたので、心得たりと刀を抜き、
ついに切り殺してよくよく見れば、大きな古狸であった。
「なんと又八の手並みを見たか。やい。」
狸は苦しがって、目を裂けんばかりに叫ぶ声がすさまじかった。
化け物は又八を騙そうと、伯母に化けて内へ入る。
又八がよく来たことよ。心もとなや。さあこちらへお入りなさい。
鎌田又八はようやく伯母の門口に来たり、しかじかの由を言う。
英語訳
When that giant demon tried to devour and kill Kamada Matahachi, he understood the situation and drew his sword,
finally cutting it down. When he looked closely, it was a large old tanuki (raccoon dog).
"How's that! Did you see Matahachi's skill? Hey there!"
The tanuki suffered in agony, its cries were terrible as it screamed with eyes nearly bursting.
The monster, intending to deceive Matahachi, transformed into his aunt and entered the house.
"How good that Matahachi has come! I was feeling so lonely. Come, please enter here."
Kamada Matahachi finally arrived at his aunt's gate and told her about what had happened.
