　　諸人驚目候　兎角一日も早く打死と覚悟仕候
　　貴所事昨今之籠城　其上数ヶ所深手ヲ負候間　無油断
　　早々在所へ御引込御尤存候　誰ニ而も嘲有間敷候　我等
　　ハ家康懇意之筋目有之　板倉伊賀守ゟ度々内意
　　申越候得共　二心ハ士之非本意　聊面目も不存候得共
　　人並ニ月日を送り無是非事ニ御座候　然は此香炉
　　姉君へ御届可被下候　扨此太刀ハ家康ゟ我等十三才之時
　　元服之為祝儀給候　使者本多平八口上　家康も秘蔵
　　之大業物ニ而来国俊之由申来候　我等数度之戦ニ此太刀
　　ニ而一度も不得不覚　依之大波と名付今日迄所持仕候
　　得共進候　随分御秘蔵可被成下一城の中ニ有なから一時も

　　一 筆啓上仕候　亡主内匠儀及御聞被成候通　去春不慮

諸人が驚き見ております。とにかく一日も早く討死する覚悟をしております。
　　あなた様のことですが、昨今の籠城、その上数箇所に深手を負われている間は、油断なく
　　早々に在所へお引き込みになるのが御尤もと存じます。誰であっても嘲笑する者はいないでしょう。私
　　は家康と懇意の筋目があり、板倉伊賀守より度々内々の意向を
　　申し越されましたが、二心は武士の本意に非ず。いささか面目も存じませんが
　　人並みに月日を送ることは仕方のないことでございます。それでは、この香炉を
　　姉君へお届けくださいますように。さて、この太刀は家康より私が十三歳の時、
　　元服の祝儀として賜りました。使者は本多平八、口上では家康も秘蔵の
　　大業物で来国俊の作との由申してきました。私は数度の戦でこの太刀
　　によって一度も不覚を取ったことがありません。これにより大波と名付け今日まで所持してまいりました
　　けれども進呈いたします。どうぞご秘蔵くださいますように。一つの城の中にいながら一時も
　　心静かにお話しすることもなく、他人同然のようで残念至極でございます。さぞかし
　　お姉様のお照殿もお恨みになることでしょう。この件は私のせいではございません。よろしくお言い訳くださいますように。

　　一筆申し上げます。亡き主君内匠のことについてお聞き及びになった通り、去る春不慮の

All people are watching in amazement. In any case, I am prepared to die in battle as soon as possible.
　　As for you, given the recent siege and the fact that you have sustained deep wounds in several places, it would be most prudent to
　　withdraw quickly to your domain without letting your guard down. No one would mock such a decision. I
　　have close connections with Ieyasu, and although Itakura Iga-no-kami has repeatedly sent me
　　private overtures, having divided loyalties goes against a warrior's true purpose. Though I feel somewhat ashamed,
　　living day by day like an ordinary person is unavoidable. Now then, please deliver this incense burner to
　　our elder sister. As for this sword, Ieyasu bestowed it upon me when I was thirteen years old as
　　a celebration for my coming-of-age ceremony. The messenger was Honda Heihachi, who said that Ieyasu treasured this
　　masterwork blade forged by Rai Kunitsugu. In numerous battles, I have never suffered
　　defeat while wielding this sword. Therefore I named it "Great Wave" and have carried it until today,
　　but now I present it to you. Please treasure it well. Though we are in the same castle, we cannot have even a moment
　　of peaceful conversation, remaining like strangers, which is most regrettable. Surely
　　our elder sister Lady Oteru must harbor resentment. This situation is not my fault. Please make appropriate excuses for me.
