市郷之者共紛失物御坐候節者御願申上候歟若内分ニ而詮義ニ
罷越候義ニ御坐候得者被盗主直々罷越候得者似寄之品其座ニ而
相見せ候上者操り落等も御坐有間布と奉存候非人共ニ而者
似寄之品相見せ候而も難相分候ニ付右之趣を以先達而奉願上候処

相見及候様申聞持帰候様仕候得者質屋共も被盗主双方とも

市郷の者どもに紛失物がございます節は、御願い申し上げますでしょうか、あるいは内密に詮議に参りますことでございますので、被盗主が直々に参りましたなら、似寄りの品をその座で相見せした上は、操り落とし等もございましょうかと存じます。非人どもでは似寄りの品を相見せしても相分かりかねますので、右の趣旨をもって先達て願い上げましたところ、仰せ付けられ一統の者ども有難き仕合いと存じます。然るところ、この度郷分の者どもが迷惑の旨をもって、従来通り番非人どもが詮議に参るよう仰せ付けいただきたき趣旨を願い上げましたので、私ども御尋ねを仰せ付けられましたので申し上げます。
一、この度郷分の者どもより申し出の件は尤もの件と相聞こえますが、前件申し上げました通り、番非人どもでは相分かりかねる儀もございます。万一似寄りの品を相見せして引き合わせる品がございましても、何を盗み取ったか直々に参って見及ばなければ、確と相分かりかねます。このようなことでは、かえって二重の手間取り費用にもなりましょうかと存じます。然しながら郷分迷惑の趣がございますなら、この以後先達ての通り番非人どもが参りましたなら詮議して相渡し申すべきです。然るところ前に申し上げました通り、即座の詮議をすることでございますので、日数が延びては操り落とし等も計り難い儀もございますので、紛失物がございましたなら早速詮議に参るよう仰せ付けいただきたく願い上げます。再び似寄りの品がございます節は、非人どもへ右の品書を相渡し、日数を相限り、右の日限までに被盗主又は品案内の者が参って、いよいよ引き合わせるかを相見及ぶよう申し聞かせ持ち帰るようにいたしますなら、質屋どもも被盗主双方とも便利がよろしく、非人どもも穿鑿向きの詮が相顕れましょうかと存じます。尤も非人どもの件、通常法外の仕方がないよう重々御取り究めを願い上げます。

When urban and rural residents have lost items, do they submit formal petitions, or do they come for private investigations? If the theft victims come directly, similar items can be shown on the spot, and we believe there might be cases of concealment or negligence. 1. The petition from the rural residents seems reasonable, but as previously stated, there are matters that ban-hinin cannot properly discern. Therefore, we petition that when lost items occur, investigations should commence immediately. Furthermore, when similar items are found, we propose giving the hinin written descriptions of such items with a set time limit, requiring that by this deadline either the theft victim or someone familiar with the items comes to conduct proper comparisons. This would be convenient for both pawnshops and theft victims, and would likely clarify the hinin's investigative efforts. Of course, we earnestly petition that the hinin be strictly supervised to ensure no irregular conduct occurs.
