【中巻廿七丁裏】
▲ほりのひろさ十弐間ふかさ八間長三百八十
間有此坪数何程あるそと云時に
坪数三万六千四百八十坪有と云
先十二に八間をかくれは九十六坪と成これに長
三百八十間をかくれは三万六千四百八拾坪と知也
▲右のほりを人数五千にてほる時一／頭（かしら）の人数
千六百人有時これにほり何間あたるそと云時
百廿一間三尺九寸にあたると云
長三百八十間に千六百人をかけて高五千人に

【中巻二十七丁裏】
▲堀の広さ十二間、深さ八間、長さ三百八十間ある。この坪数はどの程度あるかという時に、
坪数三万六千四百八十坪あるという
まず十二（間）に八間をかければ九十六坪となる。これに長さ三百八十間をかければ三万六千四百八十坪とわかる。
▲右の堀を人数五千人で掘る時、一組（頭）の人数が千六百人いる時、この組に堀が何間あたるかという時に、
百二十一間三尺九寸にあたるという
長三百八十間に千六百人をかけて、総人数五千人で割るのである。

▲堀の長さ四百間、広さ三間、深さ二間二尺ある時、この坪数はどの程度あるかという時に、
二千七百六十九坪二分三厘あるという
まず二間二尺を右においておき、この二間だけに六・五をかければ一丈五尺となる。これに広さ三間をかければ四・五となる。これに長さ四百間をかければ一八〇〇となる。これを六尺五寸で割れば二千七百六十九坪二分三厘とわかる。
また二間二尺ある時に、この二尺だけを六・五で割れば二間三・〇七六九…となる。これに三間をかければ六・九二三〇七となる。これに長さ四百間をかければ二千七百六十九坪二分二厘八毛となる。

It is said to contain 36,480 tsubo.
First, multiply 12 (ken) by 8 ken to get 96 tsubo. Multiply this by the length of 380 ken to find 36,480 tsubo.
▲When digging the above moat with a workforce of 5,000 people, and one group (kashira) has 1,600 people, asking how many ken of the moat this group is responsible for:
It is said to be 121 ken 3 shaku 9 sun per group.
Multiply the length of 380 ken by 1,600 people, then divide by the total workforce of 5,000 people.

▲When a moat is 400 ken long, 3 ken wide, and 2 ken 2 shaku deep, and one asks how many tsubo it contains:
It is said to be 2,769 tsubo 2 bu 3 rin.
First, set aside the measurement of 2 ken 2 shaku. Multiply just the 2 ken portion by 6.5 to get 1 jō 5 shaku (= 1 ken 5 shaku = 15 shaku). Multiply this by the width of 3 ken to get 4.5. Multiply this by the length of 400 ken to get 1,800. Divide this by 6 shaku 5 sun to find 2,769 tsubo 2 bu 3 rin.
Alternatively, when there is 2 ken 2 shaku, divide just the 2 shaku portion by 6.5, which gives 2 ken 3.0769... Multiply this by 3 ken to get 6.92307. Multiply this by the length of 400 ken to get 2,769 tsubo 2 bu 2 rin 8 mō.
