【中巻廿八丁裏】
▲ほりの長四百間にひろさ五間三尺ふかさ弐間弐尺
あり此坪何ほとあるそと云時
五千四拾壱坪四分弐りと云
先弐間弐尺と右に置此弐間に六五をかくれは一丈五
尺と成又五間三尺にも五間ばかりに六五をかくれは三丈
五尺五寸と成これを右の一丈五尺にかくれは五三二五
と成これに長四百間をかくれは二一三と成これを四二二
五を以てわれは五千四十一坪四分弐りとしるる也
又右之二一三を六五にて二たひわりても五千の四十

▲堀の長さ400間、広さ5間3尺、深さ2間2尺ある。この坪数はどの程度あるかという時に
5,041坪4分2厘あるという
まず2間2尺と右に置き、この2間に65をかければ1丈5尺となる。また5間3尺にも5間ばかりに65をかければ3丈5尺5寸となる。これを右の1丈5尺にかければ5,325となる。これに長さ400間をかければ2,130,000となる。これを4,225で割れば5,041坪4分2厘と知る。
また右の2,130,000を65で2度割っても5,041坪4分2厘となる。

まず400間5尺を400間ばかりに65をかければ260丈5尺となる。これに広さを丈に直してかければ92,477.5となる。これに深さを丈に直してかければ138,716.25となる。
これを右に別に置き、左に坪法27,4625と置いてこれで右を割る時、5,051坪1分1厘となる。

First, take 2 ken 2 shaku and place it to the right. Multiply just the 2 ken by 65 to get 1 jō 5 shaku. Similarly, for 5 ken 3 shaku, multiply just the 5 ken by 65 to get 3 jō 5 shaku 5 sun. Multiply this by the 1 jō 5 shaku on the right to get 5,325. Multiply this by the length of 400 ken to get 2,130,000. Divide this by 4,225 to get 5,041 tsubo 4 bu 2 rin.
Alternatively, dividing the 2,130,000 by 65 twice also gives 5,041 tsubo 4 bu 2 rin.
