古升で七斗二升五合七勺六才入り
法として、二尺四寸を左右に置いて掛ければ五七六となる。これに（深さ）一尺八寸と底の尖り（底辺）六寸を加えて二尺四寸とし、これを五七六に掛ければ一三八二四となる。これを三で割れば四六・八となる。これを別に置いておく。
底の差し渡し六寸を左右に置いて掛け、深さ六寸を掛けて三で割れば七・二となる。これを右の四六・八から引くと四五・三六となる。これに古升の法一六を掛ければ七斗二升五合七勺六才入りとなる。 本算は口伝にある。

これに水がどれほど入るかと言う時
○一斗一升一合五勺八才四抄入り
法として、口（上辺）一尺四寸五分に底一尺三寸五分を加えて二尺八寸、これを二で割れば一尺四寸となる。これを左右に置いて掛ければ一九六となる。これに七・九を掛ければ一五四八・四となる。これに深さ四寸五分を掛ければ六九六七・八となる。これに一六を掛ければ一斗一升一合五勺八才四抄入りとなる。
概算にはこのようにする。本算（正確な計算法）には口伝がある。

Using old masu: 7 to 2 shō 5 gō 7 shaku 6 sai capacity
The method: Place 2 shaku 4 sun on both sides and multiply to get 576. Add the depth of 1 shaku 8 sun to the bottom width of 6 sun to get 2 shaku 4 sun, and multiply this by 576 to get 13,824. Divide this by 3 to get 46.8. Set this aside.
Place the bottom width of 6 sun on both sides and multiply; multiply by the depth of 6 sun, then divide by 3 to get 7.2. Subtract this from the above figure of 46.8 to get 45.36. Multiply this by the old masu conversion factor of 16 to obtain 7 to 2 shō 5 gō 7 shaku 6 sai capacity. The precise method is transmitted orally.

When asked how much water this can hold:
○ 1 to 1 shō 1 gō 5 shaku 8 sai 4 shō capacity
The method: Add the bottom measurement of 1 shaku 3 sun 5 bu to the mouth measurement of 1 shaku 4 sun 5 bu to get 2 shaku 8 sun. Divide this by 2 to get 1 shaku 4 sun. Place this on both sides and multiply to get 196. Multiply this by 7.9 to get 1548.4. Multiply this by the depth of 4 sun 5 bu to get 6967.8. Multiply this by 16 to obtain 1 to 1 shō 1 gō 5 shaku 8 sai 4 shō capacity.
