▲三寸角の弐間木四百本有これを四寸角の
弐間木にかへて取時四寸角何程そと云時
四寸角弐百弐拾五本と云
先三寸を左右にをきかくれは九と成 これを四百本
にかくれは三六と成 右にべちに置 又左に四寸を左右
にをきかくれは十六と成 これにて右之三六をわれ

右の桶の容積を求める時は、口の差し渡し（直径）と底の差し渡しを合わせて2で割り、左右に置いて掛け合わせ、さらに深さを掛けて、円の法「0.79」を掛け、升の法「16」を掛けると、何升入るかということが分かります。これはおおよその値です。本算（正確な計算）はこれではありません。
【中巻四十五丁表】
**材木（さいもく）**
▲3寸角の2間木が400本ある。これを4寸角の2間木に換えて取る時、4寸角は何本になるかというと、4寸角225本となる。
まず3寸を左右に置いて掛ければ9となる。これを400本に掛ければ3600となる。右に別に置く。また、左に4寸を左右に置いて掛ければ16となる。これで右の3600を割れば、4寸角225本と知られる。

When calculating the volume of the above barrels: add together the diameter of the mouth and the diameter of the bottom, divide by 2, place [the result] on both sides and multiply [i.e., square it], then multiply by the depth, then multiply by the circular constant 0.79, then multiply by the measure conversion factor 16 — this will tell you how many shō the barrel holds. This is an approximation. The exact calculation is not done this way.
【Middle Volume, Folio 45, Recto】
**Timber (材木)**
▲ There are 400 pieces of 2-ken lumber with 3-sun square cross-sections. When converting these into 2-ken lumber with 4-sun square cross-sections, how many 4-sun square pieces will there be? The answer is 225 pieces of 4-sun square lumber.
First, place 3 sun on both sides and multiply: this gives 9. Multiply this by 400 pieces, giving 3,600. Set this aside on the right. Next, on the left, place 4 sun on both sides and multiply: this gives 16. Divide the 3,600 on the right by this, and you will find 225 pieces of 4-sun square lumber.
