【Volume 2, Folio 50, Verso】
...becomes 27,400. Set this aside to the right, and on the left,
multiply the board width of 3 sun by the overlap allowance of 1 sun 5 bu to get 4.5.
Divide the right-hand value of 27,400 by this to find that
68,088 and 8 bu boards are needed.
▲ Similarly, for the same 64 tsubo area using boards of 3 sun width, when asked how many boards are needed if the overlap allowance is 1 sun:
Number of boards: 90,133 and 3 bu pieces
First, multiply 4×2×2×5 by 64 tsubo to get 27,400. Set this
to the right, then divide by the board width of 3 sun to find that
90,133 and 3 bu boards are needed.
【Volume 2, Folio 51, Recto】
[Illustration of a roof in the upper right: above the ridge] Roof: 8 ken
[On the flat section] Beam span: 10 ken Eaves: 13 ken 2 ken 3 ken
[On the gable end] 3 ken
[Under the eaves] Eaves: 6 ken
When asked how large this roof area is:
Thickness of eaves: 4 sun
Thickness of the shina [purlin section]: 2 sun
Length of corner groove: 3 ken 5 shaku
This area: 157 tsubo and 4 bu
For the thickness of the eaves and the thickness of the shina, a length of 1 ken with a thickness of 1 shaku equals 1 tsubo. For the corner groove, a length of 2 ken equals 1 tsubo. The answer follows the same principle.
First, add the ridge length of 8 ken and the beam span of 10 ken to get 18 ken. Then...
