【Volume 2, Folio 51, Verso】
Divide by two to get 9 ken. Multiply this by 2 ken to get 18 tsubo.
Next, add the beam span of 10 ken and the eaves of 13 ken to get 23 ken; divide by two to get
11 ken and a half. Multiply this by 3 ken to get 34 tsubo and a half. Then add 6 ken and
3 ken to get 9 ken. Divide by two to get 4 ken and a half. Multiply this by 3
ken to get 13 tsubo and a half. The three sections combined give 66 tsubo, and accounting for
both sides, this gives 132 tsubo. ○ Also, multiply the eaves perimeter of 38 ken
by 4 sun to get 15 tsubo and 2 bu. ○ Also, multiply the total length of both shina [purlin sections] of 16
ken by 2 sun to get 3 tsubo and 2 bu. Furthermore, the four corners of the roof
combined total 14 ken; divide this by 2 ken to get 7 tsubo.
The four parts combined give a total of 157 tsubo and 4 bu, as recorded.

《Title: Hinoki Bark (檜皮, hiwada)》
[Illustration of a bundle of hinoki bark at the bottom of the page]
When purchasing 200 bundles of hinoki bark, with one "shime" [binding] being measured by a 5-shaku rope when tied, if each bundle is short by 5 sun,
and given these bundles that are 5 sun short of a 5-shaku rope binding,
how many of these bundles would be needed to equal 200 standard bundles?
With a 4-shaku 5-sun rope: 246 bundles and 9 bu will suffice.
First, divide 5 shaku by the circular circumference constant 3.16 to get
1 shaku 5 sun 8 bu 2 rin 2 mo. Place this value on both sides
and multiply to get the area in square sun: 250 (令) 3 bu 3 rin 5 mo 6 shi 8 kotsu 4. Multiply this by 200 bundles...
