【下巻九丁裏】
▲ねずみが正月に、父母（一つがい）がいて、子を十二匹産む。
親を合わせると十四匹になる。このねずみたちは、
二月には、子もまた子を十二匹ずつ産む
ので、親を合わせると九十八匹になる。このように
毎月一度ずつ、親も子も、孫も
曾孫も、月ごとに十二匹ずつ産むとすると、一年
中（十二ヶ月）では、ねずみはどれほどになるかという問い。
合計 二百七十六億八千二百五十七万四千四百二匹
【解法】ねずみ二匹に七を十二回かけると答えがわかる。
【下巻十丁表】
上記のねずみが、一日に米を半合ずつ食べると
したとして、一ヶ月で米はどれほどになるかという問い。
答え：
○一千三百八十四万一千二百八十七石二斗一合である。
上記のねずみが一日にこれほど食べるとすれば、
日本国中の収穫量（物成）を三日で食い尽くしてしまうことになる。

▲ In the first month (*Shōgatsu*), a pair of parent mice produces 12 offspring.
Together with the parents, this makes 14 mice. These mice,
in the second month, have their offspring also give birth to 12 mice each,
so that together with the parents, the total becomes 98 mice. In this manner,
once every month, parents, children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren all give birth to 12 mice each month. How many
mice will there be in total over the course of one year?

**[Method]** Multiply 2 mice by 7, twelve times over, and you will obtain the answer.

Supposing the above mice each eat half a *gō* of rice per day,
how much rice would they consume in one month?
Answer:
○ 13,841,287 *koku*, 2 *to*, 1 *gō*.
If the above mice were to eat this much each day,
they would consume the entire rice harvest (*motonari*) of all of Japan within three days.
