**[Volume 2, Folio 12, Verso]**
Per day, 24,498 *koku*, 2 *to*, and 4 *shō* of rice are required.
Over the course of a full year: 8,672,376 *koku*, 9 *to*, and 6 *shō*.
Note: The year is calculated as 354 days.
Now, if the aforementioned number of men and women were packed at a density of 12 persons per square *ken*, what would be the length and width of the area required? — So the question is posed.
Answer: Length — 11 *chō* and 21 *ken*; Width — 10 *chō*.
[Within the square diagram at the lower left — written sideways along the top edge:]
Width: 10 *chō*
Length: 11 *chō* and 21 *ken*
Within this area, men and women together number 4,890,099,648 persons.

[Figure — a storehouse (*kura*) with a hole-punched coin to its right]
*Kan'ei Tsūhō* (寛永通宝)
[Below the figure:]
If one *mon* of cash were doubled every day for 30 days, how much would it amount to? — So the question is posed.
Answer: 536,870 *kan*, 912 *mon*.
The *mezeni* (interest/exchange discount) on this sum: 22,369 *kan*, 620 *mon*.
Combined with the *mezeni*, the total comes to: 559,240 *kan*, 532 *mon*.
Note: This calculation uses the exchange rate of 96 *mon* per 100 *mon* (face value).
How large a storehouse would be needed to hold all of this coin? — So the question is posed.
Answer: It would fill a storehouse 12 *ken* long, 4 *ken* wide, and 1.5 *ken* high.
