現代語訳
【下巻十五丁裏】
▲近江の湖（琵琶湖）を周囲に沿って、一間ずつ（稲を）植え出したとすれば、米はどれほどできるかと問う。
○答え 千石できる。
この米をもってすれば、京の街中を一日分養うことができる。昔は三株植え出しただけでも、京を三日間養えると見積もったと言うけれども、今は京が広くなったためか、（それでは）不足となってしまう。
【下巻十六丁表】
鳩が正月に雛を二羽産んで、二月にはまたその子も二羽産む。月に一度ずつ、親も子も孫も曾孫も産むとすれば、十二ヶ月後には何羽になるかと問う。
合計八千百九十二羽になると言う。
計算法：親の二羽に二を掛けて十二回繰り返せば、八千百九十二羽と分かる。
この鳩たちに豆を一日一合ずつ食べさせるとすれば、一日に豆八石一斗九升二合ずつ必要となる。

▲ If one were to plant [rice seedlings] one *ken* at a time all the way around Lake Biwa (Ōmi no Mizuumi), how much rice would be produced?
○ Answer: 1,000 *koku* would be produced.
With this rice, one could feed the city of Kyoto for one day. In former times, it was said that even planting just three stalks would be enough to feed Kyoto for three days, but now, perhaps because Kyoto has grown larger, that amount falls short.

A pair of doves gives birth to two chicks in the first month, and in the second month, those chicks also give birth to two. If every month, the parents, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each give birth [to two], how many doves will there be after twelve months?
The total comes to 8,192 doves.
Method: Take the original two doves, multiply by two, and repeat this twelve times — the result is 8,192 doves.
If these doves are each fed 1 *gō* of beans per day, then 8 *koku*, 1 *to*, 9 *shō*, and 2 *gō* of beans would be needed per day.
