存候故任申加判仕罷在候処七月十二日夜家内一同欠落

不申何分示談出来不申候猶追々見聞仕候ニ早速追人も
差出不申趣ニ御座候吉兵衛組合之者幷丁代元えも申断

Regarding Tomiya Kichibei, who is a branch family of Hirose Jirozaemon-dono: In the fifth month, he borrowed money from the official office for purchasing cocoons as local products, and requested that I provide a guarantee (kajiban). Since this concerned the branch family of Jirozaemon-dono, I thought there would be no particular problems and agreed to provide the guarantee as requested. However, on the night of the twelfth day of the seventh month, I learned the next morning of the thirteenth that the entire family had absconded during the night. I was truly shocked and immediately went to Jirozaemon-dono's residence, stating that I wished to meet with him. The household members told me that Jirozaemon-dono was away, so I said there was something I absolutely needed to discuss regarding Kichibei-dono. They said he had gone to Kichibei's house, so I immediately went to Kichibei's residence to confirm. There I found Jirozaemon-dono and other relatives gathered together, cleaning up merchandise and household goods. I then brought up the matter of the loan guarantee I had been asked to provide, whereupon Jirozaemon-dono

stated that since the family had fled with their dependents, he would send pursuers to bring them back and then make proper apologies. After that, the matter was left unattended with no apologies forthcoming. I visited repeatedly trying to meet with him, but each time he made unreasonable statements and completely ignored the matter, making any settlement impossible. Furthermore, from what I heard later, it appears no pursuers were actually sent out promptly. Although I informed Kichibei's guild members and the town representative, the merchandise and household goods were disposed of without any notice from Jirozaemon-dono to the neighborhood guild, and I heard that debts and such would be handled by Jirozaemon-dono's side.
