明治四年辛未七月、典膳の宿屋共が嘆願いたしましたところ、格別の配慮により八月十三日に拝借金を下賜されることとなり、この証文をお返しいただくことになりましたので、消印の上保管いたします。

【Marginal notation on reverse】
In the seventh month of Meiji 4, Year of the Metal Sheep, when the innkeepers petitioned regarding Tenzen's case, through special consideration, the loan money was granted on the thirteenth day of the eighth month. As this certificate has been returned to us, we store it away after applying cancellation marks.
