Such things happening would indeed be strange.
Note: Among the local Ainu, some were seen with shaved heads like the Manchu Ainu, but since they did not ask whether these were residents or not, it is unknown who they were.
On the eleventh day of the same month, they departed Urugē and traveled upstream about four ri to arrive at Teshin. This is where a Manchu temporary government office was located. When it was reported that the boat Ainu had brought Shyashi with them, the Manchu official Ainu who were staying there ordered that he be brought to the official boat. So the boat Ainu advanced their vessel to the side of the official boat, immediately transferred to the official boat and approached the officials. The Manchu official Ainu, dressed in proper clothing and headgear, received them. After this business was concluded, while crouching in the kitchen area, the gathered Ainu again showed great curiosity and crowded around to toy with Rinzō, just as had happened at Kichī. Later, the Manchu Ainu said that he should stay in the boat where he himself was riding, but the boat Ainu would not permit this, so he ended up living together in the boat Ainu's temporary shelter. The assembled Ainu came daily to the temporary shelter to ridicule, laugh at, and toy with Rinzō, and the noise became unbearable, but the Manchu Ainu would come from time to time to restrain them, and also made rounds to inspect only this shelter during the night.
