英語訳

*(Continuation from previous page — Enkyō 4, year of the Rabbit)* The above was communicated in writing by Watanabe Sachū on the 8th day of the 3rd month. ○ On this occasion, as the *Kōgi* (the Shogunate) has graciously announced the designation of an heir (*yōkun-sama*), a letter of congratulation is to be presented to the Young Lord (*Wakadono-sama*). The address (*atesho*) of said letter is to be directed to one's counterpart colleagues (*dōyaku-chū*) in Edo. Item — Henceforth, as has been established up until now: beyond the customary presentations of formal greetings on the occasions of the New Year, midsummer, midwinter, the lord's departure for Edo (*go-sankin*), and his return home (*go-kikoku*), as well as upon the receipt of hawks or skylarks as gifts from above (*go-hairyō*), and furthermore upon the issuance of notices from the senior councillors (*go-karō-chū*) — in all such cases, letters of congratulation and the like are to be presented to both Lords (*ryō-tonosama*) in the same manner as described above. Beyond the above-mentioned occasions, letters are to be sent as circumstances and communications dictate. 7th month, 5th day --- **Item — The first year of Kan'en (the year of the Dragon, 1748)** ○ From this point forward, in the event of thunder or earthquakes and the like, if the severity is generally ordinary, it is not necessary to go out (*maideru*) to inquire after the lord's well-being (*go-kigen o ukagau*). However, in the event of an exceptionally severe (*itate tsuyoki*) thunderstorm or earthquake, the case is different (and attendance may be warranted). During the nighttime, it is not necessary to go out. However, if the event is of such magnitude that going out would be warranted, one should inquire after the lord's well-being the following day. **[The left folio is the same as page eleven.]**
