一、御前様（奥方様）へ年始御祝儀・暑寒御機嫌伺のことは、御在府中の通りご承知おき下さるべく候。その他、不時（ふじ）の御歓・御機嫌の書状を差し上げることも、これまた御用人より申し通ずべく候。
但し、御在国中（国元在国の間）、御家老中より御触れのある節は、御歓申し上げるべく候。もっともその他のことは本文の通りご承知おき下さるべく候。

但し、前髪ある面々と医師中（いしゅう）とは席を分け置くこと。もっとも医師中はいつもの所、御広間の御床裏（おとこうら）に指し置く。

但し、寄合番外・寄合子共・番外子共として罷り出る。
右は大広間末の方、二畳目ほどより並び居る。

**Memorandum of Oral Instructions**
Item: For all congratulatory occasions (*oyorokobi*), as well as strong thunder, earthquakes, and other occasions for paying one's respects to the lord (*okigen ukagai*), notification of when to appear will be issued by the *goyōnin* (chamberlain/senior official); therefore, unless such notification is given, there is no need to appear.
*Provided that: paying one's respects during the summer and winter seasons (*shōkan no okigen ukagai*) shall continue as before.*
Item: During the lord's residence in Edo (*go-zaifuchū*), the submission of congratulatory messages or respectful inquiries after the lord's health by letter shall likewise be conducted as stated above.
*Provided that: New Year's congratulatory greetings, congratulatory occasions announced by a circular from the senior councillors (*go-karōjū*), and summer/winter respectful inquiries shall continue as before.*
Item: New Year's congratulatory greetings and summer/winter respectful inquiries addressed to the Lady (*Omaesama*, the lord's principal consort) shall be conducted as during the lord's Edo residence. Regarding letters of congratulation or respectful inquiry on other irregular occasions, notification of these too shall be issued by the *goyōnin*.
*Provided that: when the lord is in residence in the domain (*go-zaikokuchū*) and a circular is issued by the senior councillors, congratulatory greetings shall be offered. For all other matters, the main text above shall be observed.*

Item: Regarding congratulatory visits and respectful inquiries for the officials (*go-yakunin*) and personal attendants (*go-kinjū*) making their rounds, there may be differences from the procedures applicable to outside (*tozama*) retainers.

**Proceedings for the Reception of General Ceremonial Greetings on the 15th Day of the 8th Month**
Item: When the lord proceeds to the front reception hall (*omote*), those retainers still wearing the forelocks (*maegami*, i.e., youths who have not yet undergone their coming-of-age ceremony) are to line up together with the domain physicians in the *tokei-no-ma* (clock room), and all are to offer their greetings, which the *goyōnin* shall formally announce.
*Provided that: the seating of those with forelocks and the physicians shall be separated. The physicians, as usual, are to be placed at the back of the *hiroshiki* (broad mat room) behind the decorative alcove (*toko ura*).*
Item: High-stipend retainers (*kōchi*) and their sons; the captain of guards (*obangashira*); *yoriai* (assemblyman retainers) and their sons; sons outside the regular duty roster (*bangatai kodomo*); down to the lowest-ranked sons outside the duty roster.
*Provided that: they appear in the capacity of *yoriai bangatai*, *yoriai kodomo*, and *bangatai kodomo* respectively.*
The above are to line up from approximately the second mat from the far end of the *ōhiroma* (great audience hall).
