**(Continued from previous page: List of proxy pilgrimages performed by middle councillors)** | Posthumous Title | Date | Temple | |------|--------|------| | Chikō-in | 17th day of 1st month | Shōhō-ji | | Seishō-in | 14th day of 7th month | Reigan-ji | The above proxy pilgrimages (daihais) on memorial days and during the 1st, 5th, and 9th months shall be performed by the middle councillors (chūrō). However, when the middle councillors are otherwise occupied, the goshoin-bangashira (guards captain) shall perform the duty; and when the guards captain is occupied, the goyōnin (senior administrator) shall perform it. - Regarding those who proceed to the temple when the middle councillors are performing proxy pilgrimages: the foot inspectors (okachi-metsuke) shall accompany them, and the water-basin attendants (temizuban) shall be the obōzu (domain Buddhist attendants). After proceeding ahead in the above manner, one is to go out to meet [the middle councillors upon their arrival]. --- **An'ei 7th Year (1778), Year of the Dog** On the 4th day of the 11th month, a separate written notice was handed over by Watanabe Jūrozaemon. Its contents are as follows: **Memorandum** Regarding the 2nd day of the 11th month (the day of the御屋形廻, tour of the lord's residence): From the day before through the afternoon of that day, fish and seafood shall be refrained from (i.e., abstained from consuming or serving). --- **An'ei 9th Year (1780), Year of the Rat** On the 12th day of the 6th month, as communicated by Isono Tamiya regarding what had been decreed per the separate document, the following is recorded: - Regarding those born [into the lord's family]: henceforth, even newborn male children (御男子様) shall be written and referred to as "御姫様" (lit. "honored princess"). - For days prior to the current day, one shall write "yesterday the Nth" or "the day before yesterday the Nth," and for days even further in the past, one shall write "the past Nth day." - For the current day, one shall write "today the Nth," and for the following days, "tomorrow the Nth" or "the day after tomorrow the Nth," and for days beyond that, "the coming Nth day." - For other matters corresponding to the four seasons, one shall write "this spring," "this summer," "this autumn," or "this winter." 12th day of the 6th month --- On the 18th day of the 6th month, the following was communicated by Isono Tamiya: It had previously been repeatedly communicated that during courier (hikyaku) dispatch, [letters and parcels] should not be made heavy or bulky, and moreover that ordinary personal correspondence should absolutely not be sent [via official couriers]. However, as discipline had slackened and things had become disorderly, this notice is issued anew, as submitted via a separate written document, and is recorded below: **Memorandum** - During courier dispatches, even official communications (goyōjō) of various kinds shall be made as light and compact as possible. - Regarding letters entrusted [to official couriers] through personal connections (tejiru) on behalf of officials: as has been repeatedly communicated previously, the forwarding of such letters shall absolutely not be done.
