して笑て曰吾子か此挙あらむ事をあらかじめ
推知して万国新語の遺稿より琉球の部を
抄出し一編の小冊となしおけりとて取出して
授け給ひぬ《割書：余｜》手の舞足の踏をしらす頓に
梓に鏤て世におほやけにす希は此書の為に
都下の紙あたひの貴からむことを実に
先生著述の書は《割書：余｜》か家の揺錢樹なり

現代語訳
微笑んで言われるには「あなたがこのような企てをなさることを予め推察して、『万国新語』の遺稿から琉球の部分を抜き出し、一編の小冊子として作っておきました」といって取り出してお授けくださった。私は手の舞い足の踏むところも知らず、すぐに版木に彫って世に公にした。願わくはこの書のために都下の紙の値段が高くなることを。実に先生の著述の書は私の家の金のなる木である。

英語訳
He smiled and said, "Anticipating that you would undertake such a venture, I have already extracted the Ryukyu section from the manuscripts of 'Bankoku Shingo' and made it into a small booklet." He then brought it out and graciously bestowed it upon me. Not knowing where to place my dancing hands and stamping feet [from joy], I immediately had it carved into printing blocks and published it to the world. I hope that because of this book, the price of paper in the capital will become dear. Truly, the master's authored books are the money tree of my house.
