豊橋市史談 (補遺 羽田野敬雄に就て) 五百廿四

侍従ニ被任 戸 田 山 城 守
同 断 堀 大 和 守
《割書：大和守殿御加判の列被仰付候所再三｜御辞退ニ付勤向今迄の通ニテ侍従ニ被任候》
右は六月十日ゟ本日迄の内ニ被仰付候也
土井様ニは御引込ニて御出勤は六ケ敷候由也誠にくら〳〵としたる御事共ニ御座候
一、此節長崎へ異国の賊船到来の由ニて去月廿九日筑前様ゟ御注進の御飛脚打つゞき同日鍋嶋
様大村様のも通行有之尤筑前の御飛脚は宮宿一番越新居仕まひ越ニ通行いたし候に付新井ニ
て承り候処鍋嶋様ニは既ニ御出陣有 筑前様ゟも先手一備御差出被成と申迄ニて飛脚出立い
たし尤何国の船ニて何艘と申事も承らず御用状持参出立いたし候由物語いたし候由尤薩州の
御飛脚の咄ニは船数凡百七十八艘三手ニ相成相見へもハヤ琉球はとられ候と申事の由相咄候
由ニ候得共これハ実事とも不致候へ共いづれ賊船の参り候ニは相違無之定てイキリス船と被
察何共きつかハ敷御事ニ御座候
彼国近年から国へも寄来合戦御座候処終ニ和睦ニ相成からニて交易所七ケ所と相定り毎年一
ケ所ニ於て金二百万両ツヽイキリスへ差遣候盟約ニて事治り候由から国大国たりといへ共毎
年夫程の金子出候ては終にハ国おとろへ内乱出来べき事と昨年商唐人ゟ公儀へ言上いたし候
由誠におそろしく歎ハしき限にて何卒おたやかにしつまり候様いたし度事に御座候先は時候
御見舞旁如此御座候乍末いつれも様へも宜敷被仰上可被下候様頼候家内共も宜敷申上候様申
出候匇々不備

【本文】
侍従に任じられる 戸田山城守
同じく 堀大和守
《割書：大和守殿は御加判の列に仰せ付けられる所、再三御辞退につき勤向今まで通りにて侍従に任じられる》
右は六月十日より本日までの内に仰せ付けられたものである。
土井様には御引込みにて御出勤は難しい由である。誠に暗澹とした御事共である。
一、この度長崎へ異国の賊船到来の由にて去月二十九日筑前様より御注進の御飛脚が続き、同日鍋島様大村様のも通行があった。もっとも筑前の御飛脚は宮宿一番越新居仕舞い越に通行したにつき新井にて承った所、鍋島様には既に御出陣があり、筑前様からも先手一備御差出しなされたと申すまでにて飛脚出立した。もっとも何国の船にて何艘と申す事も承らず御用状持参出立した由物語した由である。もっとも薩州の御飛脚の話には船数凡そ百七十八艘三手に相成り相見え、もはや琉球は取られたと申す事の由相話した由である。しかしこれは実事とも致さないが、いずれ賊船の参った事には相違なく、定めてイギリス船と察せられ、何とも厳しい御事である。
彼の国近年から唐（中国）へも寄来合戦があった所、終に和睦に相成り、唐にて交易所七ヶ所と相定まり毎年一ヶ所において金二百万両ずつイギリスへ差し遣わす盟約にて事治まった由、唐国大国たりといえども毎年それほどの金子出すては終には国衰え内乱出来るべき事と昨年商唐人より公儀へ言上した由、誠に恐ろしく嘆かわしき限りにて何卒穏やかに静まるよう致したき事である。先は時候御見舞いかたがた如此である。末ながらいずれも様へも宜しく仰せ上げ下さるよう頼む。家内共も宜しく申し上げるよう申し出た。匆々不備

The above appointments were made between June 10th and today.
Lord Doi has withdrawn and his attendance at court is difficult. These are truly gloomy affairs.
First, regarding the arrival of foreign enemy ships at Nagasaki, on the 29th of last month express messengers came from Lord Chikuzen with urgent reports, and on the same day messengers from Lords Nabeshima and Omura also passed through. The Chikuzen messenger passed through from Miya post station via Shinisumi, and when I inquired at Arai, I learned that Lord Nabeshima had already dispatched troops and Lord Chikuzen had also sent advance forces. The messenger departed carrying official documents, though I did not learn which country's ships or how many vessels were involved. According to the Satsuma messenger's account, the fleet numbers approximately 178 ships in three divisions, and it appears that Ryukyu has already been taken. However, this may not be factual, but there is no doubt that enemy ships have arrived, and they are certainly believed to be British vessels - this is indeed a grave matter.
In recent years, that country (Britain) has been waging war against China, which finally ended in peace. Seven trading ports were established in China, with an agreement that China would pay Britain 2 million ryo of gold annually at each port. Even though China is a great nation, paying such amounts yearly will eventually weaken the country and lead to internal rebellion - this was reported to our government by Chinese merchants last year. This is truly frightening and lamentable, and we earnestly hope for peaceful resolution. This is written as a seasonal greeting. Please give my regards to everyone. My family also sends their regards. Written hastily and incompletely.
