【本文】
公辺ニ被於ては右等全く
叡慮御遵奉にて御奮発御攘夷を被為励候はヽ叡慮は固より御通徹自然
公武御一和は不及申御事然ル上は御縁約等之儀は何れにても可然然るを右等前後御次第は更に御構
ひ無之一図ニ
皇妹御縁約を以《割書:皇妹疾く宮方え御定約相成候を強て御離別関東|え改めて御縁約ニ奉致抔承知仕候尚更之儀ニ候》公武御一和を御取結ひ然ル上ニて御奮発御攘夷
之功可被為盡との御事ニて表向御老中方御連署ニて十ケ年之内ニは必暦懲之師を挙る抔被 仰上は
有之由候へ共内実御含は果して如何は難奉伺計其上所司代ゟは莫大の金銀賄賂を以公卿方を御取繕
ひ就中
御左右の御医師え被及密談候事も有之抔不容易虚説も差起候程ニ内外種々の御手段被為盡御成就相
成候へは何ニやら押貰ひ無理取りの様ニも相聞へ是又前文激醸之一端ニも相成候哉と奉存候夫凡匹
夫匹婦之縁約ニても双方和熟之上縁約取結候は勿論或は不和之筋有之和熟を取結ふ為め縁約致し候
事も有之右様の節は必先其不和之筋根本を相尋其理を分け其意を通して双方互に和する上其和熟を
結固の為め縁約等之儀有之候若し亦左も無之其不和の根本を不取捌先縁約等を望み此を以一旦其和
熟を求めんと欲は誰とて承引はいたし不申仮令承引相成縁約出来候とも果して和熟の為めニは不相
成無甲斐儀ニ候是自然之情義必しも貴賤の差別も有之間敷候左れは乍恐今度

く被 仰上御座候とて是迄の御因循振りも御座候御事故京師ニては如何御聞受被下被遊哉定て右等
甚無覚束御虚飾の御儀とも 思召可被進乍併天下の御為め筋を以強て被 仰立候へは一ト先関東之
思召ニ御任せ被進候得共其実は
叡慮の御程は固より未た御通徹不相成
公武御一和の御名目ニは候へ共実は御和熟御結固の御儀とは更ニ難奉申上就ては夷戎先年より権威
譎詐を逞し我国ニ加ふるを
公辺ニ而は右等の御処置は殊ニ御因循姑息ニて彼の侮辱も御甘受被遊追々夷戎之妖術ニ被成御效彼

天朝え御難題被 仰立御無理之御願筋も権威譎詐を以思召之通御達被成は夷戎を御親交ニて
天朝を御蔑如被成進抔とも国持外様之士民は遠慮懸念もなく申触可仕《割書:御治世以来文教大ニ開け倫理明かにし|て一天万乗之君統を可奉尊儀は三尺之》

幕府においては、これらのことを全く
天皇の意向を遵奉して奮発し、攘夷に励まれるなら、天皇の意向は当然通徹し、自然と
朝廷と幕府の一和は申すまでもないことです。そうなれば縁約などの儀はどちらでも結構でしょう。しかしこれらの前後の次第は更に構わずに、ひたすら
皇妹の縁約をもって(皇妹は以前から宮方へ婚約が成立していたのを強いて離別させ、関東へ改めて縁約することにしたと承知しており、なおさらのことです)朝廷と幕府の一和を取り結び、その上で奮発攘夷の功を尽くされるとのことで、表向き老中方の連署で十年の内には必ず懲罰の師を挙げるなどと申し上げたという由ですが、内実の含みは果たしてどうかは推し量り難く、その上所司代からは莫大な金銀賄賂をもって公卿方を取り繕い、特に
側近の御医師に密談に及ばれたこともあるなど、容易ならない虚説も起こる程に、内外種々の手段を尽くして成就されれば、何やら押し奪い無理取りのようにも聞こえ、これもまた前文の激醸の一端となったかと存じます。
そもそも一般の男女の縁約でも、双方和睦の上縁約を結ぶのは勿論、あるいは不和の筋があって和睦を取り結ぶため縁約することもあります。そのような際は必ず先にその不和の筋の根本を尋ね、その理を分け、その意を通して双方互いに和した上で、その和睦を結び固めるために縁約などの儀があります。もしそうでなく、その不和の根本を取り裁かず先に縁約などを望み、これをもって一旦その和睦を求めようと欲しても、誰でも承知はいたしません。仮令承知して縁約が出来ても、果たして和睦のためには役に立たない無甲斐なことです。これは自然の情義で、必ずしも身分の差別もないでしょう。そうであれば恐れながら今度

follow Imperial intentions with determination and strive for expelling foreigners, then Imperial intentions would naturally be communicated through, and naturally
Court-bakufu unity would be achieved without needing to mention it. In that case, matters such as marriage alliance would be fine either way. However, without any regard for these preceding and following procedures, solely
using the Imperial sister's marriage alliance (I understand that the Imperial sister had already been promised to someone from the palace faction, but was forcibly separated and newly betrothed to the Kantō - this makes it even more problematic) to achieve Court-bakufu unity, and then accomplish the merit of determined foreign expulsion - such was the plan. Officially, the senior councilors jointly signed a statement saying they would necessarily raise punitive forces within ten years, but what their true intentions were is difficult to fathom. Generally, even in marriage alliances between common men and women, agreements are naturally made after mutual harmony between both parties, or sometimes marriage alliances are arranged to establish harmony when there is discord. In such cases, one must first investigate the root of that discord, clarify the reasoning, communicate the intentions, achieve mutual harmony between both parties, and then have marriage alliances to solidify that harmony. If this is not done - if one desires marriage alliance first without resolving the root of discord, hoping thereby to achieve harmony - no one would consent to this. Even if consent were given and marriage alliance achieved, it would ultimately be useless for achieving harmony. This is natural human sentiment, without necessarily any distinction of social status.
