を禦く
公辺御不徳を御恨被成御呑痛御慎隠被在迄畢竟
徳川御宗統をして《割書:あながち公方様御身ニも不拘御宗統を大切ニ思召故ニ無余儀節は御廃立等被申上ても詰り|東照宮之御胤をして連綿征夷大将軍之御職任御持張天下之御政道不被為失肝要と思召御事》征夷大将軍
の御職任を御持張天下の御政道不被為失肝要と被思召候へは自然御家来末々迄も右の御帰志不失肝
要と奉存候へは縦令忍ひ兼堪へ難く不埒不法之筋ニ溢犯するも何卒今度の如き国持外様の奮激騒動
不相成内々一剋も早く
公辺の御心附御処置被在候《割書:当春不埒之浪士等上書中ニも日本国中之人心市童走卒迄も夷戎を悪み不申者壱人も之無万一夷|戎誅伐を名とし旗を揚る大名有之候はゝ大半其方ニ靡き候事無疑実ニ御危急の御時節外男之御》
《割書:扱ひ御手ニ余り候折柄如|何御処置可被遊哉云々》螻蟻の情実犬馬之至誠
公辺の御為第一ニ奉存候へはこそ御執政方をも奉恨時節美合の勘弁ニ不及功名ニも不相成る懇志を
尽し無甲斐一命を抛ち候は全く
公辺御身内之御家来共心底ニて御座候《割書:庚申狼藉之内ニ薩藩人有之某と水府御藩より養子ニ参り候者之由当春不埒之浪士|も水藩御家来は一両人其余は公領の郷士の類ニて外様の士民は無之候由最名前は》
《割書:夫々変|へ候由》然処彼国持外様方之如きは
公辺天下の御示し御行届の内は
公辺を仰き奉られ候も追て御綱紀も御緩み御示めし御不行届相成上はいつとなく離散いたし候は是
一様一定の御情実ニて可有之其中ニて天下の御為め深く思召被入御方は当時
公辺を被捨置ては何事も出来不申殊更攘夷の如き一大事は猶以之事是非共

当上御聡明にましまし海外之事務は疾より被為悩
叡慮御事ニも候へは《割書:当上御方は御雄偉御英明の御性資御弱冠の比より既ニ天下の形勢四界の変革も御深慮被遊和漢古今の治|乱政道悉く御熟覧ニて殊ニ壅塞の陋弊疾より御排開ニて白面の書生乳臭の文章も容易ニ 天覧ニ入り候》
《割書:由天下有名の士有識の儒等名前大略御承知ニも被為在哉ニて既ニ先年水戸藤田誠之進震災ニ死去候を聞召失人|の御嘆息遊し給ひ長州吉田氏の死其著述を忠書と仰せ給ふ抔之類天下有志の士は難有無物体奉存居り事ニ候》御懇志之趣きは

天朝え御直白可被有之は必定ニて候然ル上は叡慮御差図次第ニては一朝征夷大将軍之御職任を別ニ

宸輿を奉擁函嶺ニ臨み一同之衆力を振ひ叡慮之趣を以手強く一応
公辺え被仰入様相成候共《割書:公武の御間柄危き一|髪の干金を引く如し》是迄太平之御恩沢事は不被忘御事ニは可有之候得共天下之一

徳川御家をは御大切とは被思召間敷畢竟天下之御為めを思召せばこそ

to ensure the Tokugawa lineage (not necessarily concerning the Shogun personally, but because they value the lineage, even if unavoidable circumstances require proposing abdication, ultimately ensuring that the bloodline of Tōshō-gū [Tokugawa Ieyasu] continues uninterrupted in the office of Seii Taishogun and does not lose control of national governance - this they consider essential) and the office of Seii Taishogun
maintains its position without losing control of national governance - if they consider this essential, then naturally it is crucial that even the lowest retainers not lose sight of this objective. It is precisely because they consider the bakufu's welfare foremost that they resent the senior councilors, exhaust their sincere intentions without regard for timely discretion or personal glory, and sacrifice their worthless lives - this is entirely
the inner sentiment of retainers who are the bakufu's own household members (Among those involved in the Kōshin disturbance was a Satsuma domain member, reportedly someone who came as an adopted son from Mito domain. Among this spring's unruly rōnin, only one or two were Mito domain retainers, the rest being rural samurai from shogunal lands, with no outside domain warriors involved. However, the names were

His current Majesty is intelligent and has long been troubled by
Imperial concerns regarding overseas affairs (His current Majesty possesses a heroic and brilliant nature, and from his youth has already deeply considered the national situation and global changes, thoroughly studying the governance, order, and disorder of Japan and China throughout history. He has particularly worked to eliminate the evils of obstruction and stagnation, allowing even pale-faced scholars and inexperienced writings to easily reach Imperial attention. He apparently knows the names of most famous scholars and learned Confucians throughout the realm. When he heard of Mito's Fujita Seinoshin's death in an earthquake disaster in previous years, he sighed over the loss of talent, and when Chōshū's Yoshida died, he called his writings "loyal writings" - such cases make patriots throughout the realm feel deeply grateful). The nature of his sincere intentions
without much hesitation
will certainly be communicated directly to the Imperial Court. In that case, depending on Imperial instructions, he might one day be appointed to a position separate from that of Seii Taishogun, or

exhaust their sincere efforts toward the bakufu with respectful words (the sadness of those of humble status, or writings mocking the Koume recluse, are probably typical of outside domain perspectives). Therefore, even the retainers
should understand that the long years of peaceful benefits must not be forgotten by high and low alike, but when facing such unpredictable times as the present, considering the nation
foremost, and naturally
not interfering with the bakufu, of course
they may discuss and evaluate the merits and demerits, advantages and disadvantages of bakufu policies as before, but retainers like those mentioned above are hardly suitable for trusted employment or contrition - they abandon body and house in inappropriate circumstances,
abandon the Shogun, resent the senior councilors, suffer meaningless punishment, and aspire to worthless deeds - one could mock and pity such people. Naturally
