阿寺子抱石
七層瀑畔石形奇。 石々皆抱一石児。 救幼
主趙将軍貌。 奉胎皇武大臣姿。 可憐到底
雖頑性。 堪愛従来似善慈。 妙用此留人父
道。 磊然砂礫却人師。
大野硯川
川形似硯碧泓中。 恰好雲烟淡又濃。 香墨
研磨花樹影。 翠毫揮掃柳条風。 文房知是
神仙物。 雅致尤成造化工。 借問当年何所
画。 鳳来山上利修翁。
鳳来寺
覇業終時金碧荒。 禅宮亦自見滄桑。 不知
何処仙翁去。 欲問当年鳳鳥翔。 十二支神
空黙々。 一千石禄遂茫々。 攀登行者嶺頭
路。 依旧山亭納豆香。
長篠拝鳥井勝商之墓
一心不可奪。 磔上殺其身。 義烈如金鉄。

水暖垂揚睡。 風軽小舫通。 桜花影沉処。

さそいては思ふかた帆に豊川の
波のまに〳〵にかへる船人
星野落鴈
天津空是もほしのに影さへて
池の水かくれ雁落るなり
石巻秋月
動きなき山のいわかね明かに
月に見へける秋の夜すがら
本宮暮雪
嶋に似し山の姿は埋れて
峯おもしろき雪の夕栄
本野晴嵐
ふかみどり嵐も色になびくなり

四
阿寺子抱石
七層の滝のほとりに奇妙な形の石がある。石はみな一つの子石を抱いている。幼い
主君を救った趙の将軍の面影。胎児を奉じた武大臣の姿。憐れにも根底まで
頑固な性質とはいえ。昔から善慈に似て愛らしい。巧妙にもこれは人の父
道を留める。磊然たる砂礫でありながら人の師となる。
大野硯川
川の形は硯に似て碧い淵の中にある。まさに雲煙が淡く、また濃い。香り高い墨で
花や樹の影を磨き研ぎ。翠の筆で柳条の風を振り掃う。文房具が神仙の
道具であることを知る。雅な趣はとりわけ造化の工となる。問うてみたい、当年何を
描いたのかを。鳳来山上の利修翁を。
鳳来寺
覇業が終わった時、金碧も荒れた。禅宮もまた滄桑を見た。どこに
仙翁が去ったのかわからない。当年の鳳鳥の翔ることを問いたい。十二支の神は
空しく黙々としている。一千石の禄もついに茫々となった。行者嶺の頭上の
路を攀じ登る。依然として山亭に納豆の香りがする。
長篠で鳥居勝商の墓を拝む
一心は奪うべからず。磔の上でその身を殺す。義烈は金鉄の如し。
千秋鬼神を泣かしむ。

水暖かく垂楊眠る。風軽やかに小舟通る。桜花の影沈む処。
魚は錦雲の中に躍る。
蜂窠巌
蜂窠巌の下の水。この清流を汲むべし。問う、新城の酒は
醸し来たって蜜に似るや否や。

Four
Adera Child-Embracing Stone
By the seven-tiered waterfall, strangely shaped stones exist. Each stone embraces a child stone. The countenance of
General Zhao who saved his young lord. The figure of the great minister who protected the unborn child. Pitiably, though their nature is
stubborn to the core. They are lovable, resembling kindness from long ago. Skillfully, this preserves the way of
fatherhood among people. Though merely pebbles and stones, they become teachers to humanity.
Ōno Inkstone River
The river's shape resembles an inkstone in the blue depths. Perfectly suited for clouds and mist, light and dark. With fragrant ink,
grinding and polishing the shadows of flowers and trees. With green brush, sweeping away the wind of willow branches. The writing implements are known to be
implements of immortals. Their elegant taste particularly becomes the work of creation. I would like to ask what was
painted in those days. The hermit Rishū atop Mount Hōrai.
Hōrai Temple
When the era of military dominance ended, even the golden halls became desolate. The Zen temple too witnessed the vicissitudes of time. I don't know where
the immortal sage departed to. I want to ask about the phoenix that soared in those days. The twelve zodiac deities
are silently vacant. The stipend of a thousand koku has finally become vast and empty. Climbing up the
path to the summit of Gyōja Ridge. As before, the mountain pavilion carries the fragrance of fermented soybeans.
Visiting the Grave of Torii Katsutaka at Nagashino
A single heart cannot be taken away. Upon the crucifixion stake, his body was killed. His righteous valor was like metal and iron.
For a thousand autumns, ghosts and spirits weep.
Cherry Abyss
The water is warm, weeping willows sleep. The wind is light, small boats pass through. Where cherry blossom shadows sink.
Fish leap within brocade clouds.
Honeycomb Rock
The water below Honeycomb Rock. One should draw from this clear stream. I ask, does the sake of Shinshiro,
when brewed, resemble honey or not?

Not knowing from what period these were composed, from among the
eight-view poems and songs dedicated to Kumano Daigongen at
Nagayama Kubo Saigō Shrine, I have excerpted one waka poem each. Perhaps
they were composed during the Keichō era before the Tokugawa period.

Inviting toward the direction of longing, with sails on the Toyokawa
River, boat people return following the waves
Hoshino Falling Geese
In the heavenly sky, even the stars cast shadows
Hidden in the pond water, geese are falling
Ishimaki Autumn Moon
The unmoving rocky roots of the mountain clearly
Appear in moonlight throughout the autumn night
Hongū Evening Snow
Mountain shapes resembling islands are buried
Peaks beautiful in the evening glow of snow
Honno Clear Storm
Deep green, even the storm sways with color
