現代語訳
いろいろと詮議すれども、蝋燭立てに困り、ひそかに鍛冶屋へ来たり、値段は望み次第に使わす、夜なべにでもして人の目にかからぬようにと頼むと、注文を見せ、
「水分が頭へ、蝋燭の流れぬように皿をもつけ、風が当たって消えてはならぬ。ぼんぼりも一緒に言いつけて下され。ついでに金槌も一本調えねばならぬ」と注文すれば、あまり度々もない細工ゆえ、「不格好になれども、持ちは持ち屋にて」とくっと飲み込み、受け取りけり。

英語訳
