ほとんど支度もでき、これ切りの事なれば、ご自身にはなさらず、代参にて明神の門前まで、鋲打ちの乗り物、正服皮の供、牛の上告に来たり。
傍らに供回りを待たせ、神木のそばまでただ一人、お定まりの白装束、天気が良くても高足駄にて、九寸ばかりある牛の寝ている所をちょいと跨ぎ、思う恨みを取り殺さんと五寸釘を金槌にてとんとんととんと打ち込む。

Nearly all preparations were complete, and since this was the final matter, rather than going personally, they came for a proxy visit to the front gate of the shrine with a studded palanquin and attendants in formal leather garments to make an appeal regarding the ox.
Having the attendants wait nearby, alone they went to beside the sacred tree. Wearing the customary white robes and high wooden clogs despite the good weather, they lightly stepped over the sleeping ox that was about nine sun in height, and with the intent to kill and settle their grudge, they hammered in five-sun nails with the hammer, going "ton-ton-ton."
